real american cheddar cheese-in canada

what is real american cheddar cheese?? i just went to the grocery store to make those cheese crisps, and i couldnt find anything that said real american cheddar cheese. i live in ontario

Use regular Cheddar.

In most recipes, you can substitute it with whatever aged cheese you like. For example, I can't find Cheddar in Germany, so whenever a recipe asks for Cheddar, I am using Gouda.

American chedder cheese is a mixture of colby and chedder. A little softer and smoother then what you'd normally think of as chedder. Someone might have called it "real" so that it would be noted they weren't talking about "American Cheese". American Cheese of course being the name given to just about any processed "cheese" product. Those cheese products typcially melt very well, but wouldn't be good for cheese crisps because they don't harden up like real cheese does.

Just use "Real Canadian Cheddar" - as the commercial says, "it adds personality"!
Anyway... just cheddar cheese at your local grocery store.

just buy normal hard cheddar - avoid the Kraft processed slices. I buy a Safeway brand most of the time.
