  • How to make mayannoise ?

    Hi

I tried to make some mayo a couple of days ago, using virgin olive oil. The consistency and everything was OK, but the taste was YUK !!!

Anyone make their own and with what ingredients?

    Thanks

Of course, the mayonnaise you can buy at the shops are acceptable, too.

The Sainsbury's store brand is fine, as is Hellmann's.

Here's a cooked mayonnaise recipe from the American Egg Board:

If the taste of olive oil is too strong, you can use a lighter tasting olive oil or use a 50-50 mixture of olive oil and a bland tasting vegetable oil.

Alton Brown explains mayo. He adds sugar so you will want to use a different recipe but you will learn the science behind it.

If you're put off by the strong taste of olive oil, you could try coconut oil.
