OMG, you can have just about any seafood grilled, broiled or steamed ( I LOVE seafood!) Watch out for their "drawn butter" though, its not really butter at all so avoid it if possible! How about steamed crab legs or boiled shrimp. Steamed Lobster (if someone else is buying ! tee hee)

I was always under the impression that drawn butter was just butter is there some type of carbs in it? I would like to visit red lobster sometime and I was planning getting some snow crab legs with a nice bucket of butterOriginally posted by MotherOfGizmoWatch out for their "drawn butter" though, its not really butter at all so avoid it if possible!

Its not butter, it comes in a big jug in liquid form, they just heat it up. Use lemon juice instead. You can ask them to see the container if you want, its been so long since we discussed this I cannot remember what's in it anymore, but it isn't butter.Originally posted by ZolgorI was always under the impression that drawn butter was just butter is there some type of carbs in it? Re: Red Lobster
My dad and fiancee have been claiming for years that I was crazy---I always SWORE that it didn't taste like butter. It almost tastes like a butter extract because it has a faint alcohol taste to it (to me anyways). I dont typically use the butter because of this, but its great to know that I'm not missing out on much!!

Re: Red Lobster
The fake butter liquid is a product that's used in many restaurants. There are several brands but one is called Butter-It. It's basically hydrogonated oil, chemical flavorings, and preservatives. It's yellow liquid that restaurants use for cooking, buttering toast, buttering spaghetti noodles, making sauces, grilling anything, etc. It can be used in place of butter or oil for just about anything. Restaurants use it because its cheaper than real butter and already "melted" since it's in a liquid form. Gross gross gross. I used to be a restaurant manager, could ya tell? lol
You really never know what you're getting when you go out to eat.
By the way, staff at restaurants often lie when asked about methods of food preparation, or ingredients used. Sometime's they'll just give you an answer according to what they "think" is being used, because they don't want to be bothered with investigating.

Re: Red Lobster
I was curious about the "butter" issue at Red Lobster, so I wrote to the company. Here is their response:
Dear Tthurmond@titlemail.com,
Thank you for your interest in Red Lobster; it is always a pleasure to hear from our guests.
I am sorry that the butter did not meet your expectations. All of our shellfish is served with hot drawn butter. We use real butter, and we do not use margarine or a butter substitute
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Sincerely,
Russell

Re: Red Lobster
Very interesting, I worked there for 5 1/2 years. The "drawn butter" we used came in a big gallon type jug. It was liquid no matter that it was sitting on a shelf in the supply room. Wonder how they get real butter to stay fresh in a jug on a shelf in a storage room with no refrigeration, let alone, how they keep it from spoiling?
But it has been a while since I worked there, maybe they have changed?

Re: Red Lobster
It makes me want to go to Red Lobster and ask to be taken on a tour of the kitchen/supply area! Am I bad to be so distrustful? But heck, I used to have to fill the darned "drawn butter" warmer and I never saw a stick of butter in that place!

Re: Red Lobster
Good thing to know about the "butter" as well as the Lighthouse Menu! Thanks for that link. I notice on it that "100% pure melted butter" is an option. That would seem to imply to me that unless you were requesting the "100% pure" stuff, you might not be getting it!
As for the email from RL saying that they always use the real butter, I'd only half believe it and still request the "100% pure" stuff. Companies like to sweep stuff under the rug. Here in Canada we've known for years that the oil that McDonalds fries it's fries, etc, in is animal-based...a real issue for those who are strictly vegetarian for religious reasons. (Burger King is really the only fast-food place that gaurantees that their oil is vegetable-based.) However, in India it only came out LAST WEEK that they fries were fried in animal-based oil and now the people over there are freaking out - as well they deserve to be.
That's my rant. Can't wait to get to Red Lobster!!
