Lettuce Tacos - the Recipe Is Simple, the Flavor Is Huge, and the Carbs Are Low!

CARLSBAD, Calif., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill (Nasdaq: RUBO - News) announced it has introduced Lettuce Tacos(SM). The new lower carb -- only 7 net grams carbohydrates -- Lettuce Tacos will join the rest of Rubio's delicious HealthMex® creations that guests have been enjoying since 1997 with less fat, less calories and now, less carbohydrates. Rubio's will debut their new Lettuce Tacos in 105 of its California locations on February 3rd and be the first major quick-casual Mexican chain to offer such fare that's lower in carbs.

With Rubio's Lettuce Tacos, a total serving size of three lettuce tacos is only 7 net carbs. The new offering includes three large crispy leaves of iceberg lettuce and guests build-their-own tacos with either chargrilled chicken or grilled carne asada, plus handmade guacamole, grated cheese and hand-made salsa fresca. A plate of three Lettuce Tacos and fresh sides will be available for just $5.99.

"Since the debut of our HealthMex menu in 1997, Rubio's has been a leader in offering healthful options," said Sheri Miksa, Rubio's president and chief operating officer. She added, "With Lettuce Tacos, we are able to offer our guests sizeable portions with low net carbs complete with the Baja-style flavor they expect from Rubio's."

In 1997, Rubio's introduced their HealthMex menu, a full line of salads, burritos and tacos prepared to have 20%, or less of calories from fat. "We were founded on healthy, grilled fresh food and we continue our commitment to freshness and accommodating our guests on any kind of diet," says Ralph Rubio, Rubio's founder and chief executive officer. "Letting guests make their own diet decisions is easy at Rubio's," he continued. "They can carbo-load, cut the calories, go lower in fat, or decrease their carb intake ... we give guests plenty of delicious decisions to eat well!"

I had the Rubio's lettuce tacos last night and they were pretty good. They give you cheese, meat (carne asada, chicken or carnitas-pork for any of who who might not know what it is), gaucamole, slasa and three leaves of lettuce. You just scoop the stuff into the lettuce, basically making it however you want. I had the carne asada and it does have a good flavor. Very hard not to get one of their famous fish tacos though!!! :yummy
