  • Olive Garden Whole Wheat Pasta?

Not for the earlier phases of Atkins of course, but does anyone know if the Olive Garden selection of Whole Wheat pasta is friendly for the later phases? I looked on the web site and it didnt have any nutrition counts for it....

I would be a little suspicious. Just because a pasta or a bread says "whole wheat" does not mean it is not primarily made with white flour and other nasty ingredients. There may be a tiny amount of expensive whole wheat flour in the stuff, and the rest is white flour. Read labels carefully as there are a lot of these kinds of ripoff products out there.

Without an ingredient list, I wouldn't eat it.

I had to go there to eat dinner with my family and got the whole wheat pasta.

I felt like crap for 2 days after that. It made me gain weight and felt bloated. I think their website said it has 17% fewer carbs but that's not much really.

Any new news on the whole wheat pasta? Does Olive Garden still carry it? Has anyone found nutritional information on it?

Re: Olive Garden Whole Wheat Pasta?

It depends on the brand of pasta they use. As Naja said, with whole wheat pasta only a portion of the total flour is whole wheat.

This is the nutritional info found for generic whole wheat pasta:
            http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshel...523,82,00.html

Note: the serving size is for 1 cup cooked pasta. It's doubtful a restaurant will serve 1 cup of pasta as a part of a pasta-based entree. Restaurant servings are more like 2 or 3 cups.

The pasta seems a viable option for the Maintenance phase, but for OWL or Pre-Maintenance....let's see, 5 net carbs would be about 1/6 cup, which is roughly 2.5 tablespoons, 10 net carbs would be about 1/3 cup, which is roughly 5 tablespoons. At those amounts the pasta would be a garnish than a substantial part of a dish.
