Antipasto salad. Usually it has hard salami, ham, cheese, olives, pepperocinni, etc.

Obviously avoid pasta, bread, and anything breaded and fried. Depending on where you go, ask the server if the chef can prepare you a dish of broiled chicken, steamed veggies, and a nice salad. Be specific with them regarding what you want, and what you wish to avoid. Telling them you have allergies wouldn't hurt. That way they'll be extra cautious to avoid giving them anything you can't have.

Just off of the top of my head, a grilled or broiled chicken breast topped with proscuitto, and a slice provolone or mozarella would be great. Maybe some sauteed mushrooms on top, a side of steamed broccoli, etc. A lot restaurants will let you special order something even if it's not on the menu.

          Re: Italian Restaurant

I just dealt with this on Friday. It was really difficult for me - I went at lunch time and they did not have a single dish with meat and a side dish. Only pasta. I ordered Procuitto and Peas assuming that it would be just vegetables with meat. It was actually only a very small amount of peas in a alfredo pasta. I had to pick the procuitto and about five dozen peas out of the pasta. I ordered a salad to start with and forgot to order the dressing on the side, and it was a tossed house salad.

So...if the next time I am in this situation I will order only a large salad and see if there is some type of grilled, seared, baked meat or poultry that can top the salad and order dressing on the side. And the Caprese salad as an antipasta is an excellent idea. I saw it on the menu but didn't order it for some unknown reason

          Best of luck to you.

And even though it was a challenging meal for me because of my unwise choices - it was excellent AND I did not go out of Ketosis.

            Re: Italian Restaurant

Authentic Italian restaurants should have plenty of fish dishes. Pasta should not be the only thing on the menu. And no matter what side is offered, it can be substituted. At the very least, you can order everything a la cart.
