  • Where and what to eat in New York????

Any advice on what to eat and where to eat in New York? Washington and Boston?

Some one from Spain from dietaatkins.com is going there for vacations, he has no clue about acceptable food for OWL.

Any guide for any kind of budget??

Where he eats really depends on where he is at in Atkins. If he's on OWL, it depends on the rungs and his CCLL (if he's found it yet).

Most restaurants in NYC, Washington and Boston, he can order steaks, chicken, fish, etc. Just make sure that it is grilled or roasted. No sauces (of course). Vegetables in fine dining restaurants are usually boiled/steamed then reheated in oil or butter. So they are usually okay to eat.

Ethnic restaurants in these cities are a little more tricky. Chinese, Indian, Thai, Japanese, etc. cuisines have added sugars to many of their dishes. So he has to beware.

Hi mirna05 I got your pm. I think walmart has a lot of low carb shakes and atkins stuff. So do a lot of grocerie stores.Where in n.y. is he going? Almost everywhere you go in n.y. you can eat lowcarb. Alot of restaurants like applebees and tgifridays have low carb meals on the menu. Lots of steakhouses too.

Re: Where and what to eat in New York????

There isn't a Walmart in NYC. But he should be able to eat anywhere-- literally. If he's interested in buying products, he can go to "The Health Nuts" on 75th Street and Broadway. There are limitless other health food stores as well as grocery stores that carry low carb products. Some are:

Fairway Market (132nd street at Riverside or 73rd street at Broadway)
            Food Emporium (many locations)
            Gourmet Garage (many locations)
            Farmer's Market (Union Square, weekends)
BTW, I recommend clean low carb eating, NOT products for his stay!

New York is filled to the brim with foods acceptable for our lifestyle. I have yet to find a restaurant in which there is nothing for me to eat. (Indian food can be tricky, but even there Tandoori Chicken is a clean choice.)

Good luck...and tell your friend not to be nervous about the food choices here-- they're nothing short of amazing, and he'll be able to find great food within the boundaries of Atkins, as most restaurants are very open to substitutions/modifications.
