    Re: Mexican Food?

We either get fajitas minus the tortillas or Taco salad minus the shell AND BEANS.
Even without the beans, it's so yummy
I have also gotten fried tilapia (whole), and luckily it was served with nice salad (lettuce, tomato, and avacado). So good! Now I'm craving Mexican, thanks!

      Re: Mexican Food?

Mexican can be tricky as they do add sugar/starches to some of their sauces, best to try to find out their ingredients before you go.

Assuming their sauces aren't ruined I've never not found something I can eat. Fajitas can be a great choice, you can find them jsut about everywhere so they are a good fallback. I've also always found some sort of steak/chicken/fish meal that doesn't come in a burrito and that usually works nicely as well. Depending on the restaurant you can also sometimes get chile rellenos, but always be sure to ask because in about half they restaurants I go to they are battered. Finally, most restaurants serve their entrees with rice and beans, but (so far) every single place I go to has been perfectly happy to substitue a small salad in their place. Don't be afraid to ask!

well the cheese dip might have been iffy... but over all sounds good.

MmMmMmmmm... I eat Mexican ALL the time (I live in New Mexico). 95% of places put flour/starches in their red or green chili so you have be careful. and 99% put sugar in their red chili.
            Same goes for taco meat!!
Once I know that the chili is 'safe' I usually get Carne Adavada with cheese & an over easy egg on top, fajitas, or carnitas.
But there are lots of options if you know what to look out for!

Beans are yummy too but only if you're at the rung in OWL.

RE: Chile Rellenos, authentically the "batter" is actually all egg. You seperate the yolks from the whites, beat the whites until they're stiff, then add the yolks and that makes the batter. However I'm sure they're are lots of restaurants that aren't authentic and probably use a carby breading or batter so it's best to ask. I like to make them at home myself. I think fajitas are a good choice, or a mexican cesar salad. The mexican restaurant by my school makes a chicken dish with cheese, onions and zucchini and peppers that is to die for but the serve it on rice. My friend who watches his carbs because he's diabetic tells them no rice and they give him a salad! I digress. Fajitas minus tortillas is the way to go!

PS. Grant, ITA-"dont be afraid to ask!" Restaurants are much more aware of lowcarbing these days and will sub.
