Hi, I'm new here, still learning about Atkins but not too reliable yet about doing it perfectly with a non-compliant husband and a clueless 5 year old.

BUt I wanted to mention a couple places here in Wichita, KS metro area. One is a chain in Wichita that never did get national like they had originally thought - it's a hamburger chain called Spangles. The main spokeswoman is the daughter of the founder and she's been on Atkins diet, so recently she had all the Spangles computers reprogrammed to allow for a "Protein style" order on any of their hamburgers.

You just order whatever burger it is (Gourmet Supreme, etc. ) "Protein Style" and they put it in a plastic to-go container, the meat first, with extra lettuce tomato and onion (white onions - I understand they are okay, it's the sweet onions like Vidalia etc. that are not okay?), and mustard (no ketchup). And fork and knife. It works great! No extra charge for doing it this way - they even have it labeled "protein" as a sub line under the particular burger that you ordered, printed on the ticket.

The other thing that I noticed one of our Burger Kings (I don't know if all Burger Kings do this specifically - sounds like many of you have had a variety of similar experiences with Burger Kings in your area) will offer their side salad, in lieu of the French Fries, when you order their Combo meals, and they deducted the price of the soda pop from the Combo and gave me water. (they would have given me bottled water for an additional dollar!).

I asked the guy if they were going to offer "protein style" burgers (like Spangles) and he said he hadn't heard anything official yet, but he apparently knew what I was talking about. So next time... I'll ask them to hold the buns. I've been just pulling the buns off and throwing them away.

    Julia

P.S. How do I adjust the GMT time zones in my profile to reflect Central Standard Time? I'm clueless! I can't remember if we are 8 hours or 9 or 10 or whatever!!! Thanks!
