  • Any safe indian foods?

    Hi All,

My friends and I love to go out for Indian or Thai food. Just wondering if anyone knows which would be the lowest carb dishes? I always skip the rice and bread but am not convinced that the sauces are all safe. Any input would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rae

I was thinking Tandoori chicken might be safe, but after looking up nutrition information, some recipes are 3 carbs and some are 13! I guess it all depends on how they make it...

Kebabs seems like a good choice. If anyone has suggestions, let me know, because I'd love to eat Indian too

It depends on so many factors because they are all made differently by different cooks/chefs!

The only thing I can advise is for you to read cookbooks and see how these foods are made. Then you can estimate if a dish is truly appropriate for your phase of Atkins.

Tandoori anything is a great choice. Its normally seasoned and cooked in a tandoori oven. Most other indian food is no good as its deep fried with breading.
You can however get away with kebabs and tandoori prepared meats. your side can be a salad or a lightly curried veggie but skip the raita dressing. Good Luck

          Hey Rae76,

I normally buy this indian (microwaveable) meal that is paneer (cottage cheese) in curry sauce. I don't know if you will see that in the restaurant but its very famous in India so I'm sure you can ask and see if they carry it. I pratically ate that almost everyday for a couple of months since it is microwaveable and I lost 50lbs. I love it, its a little spicy (because of the curry sauce) so I don't know how that sets with you but if you don't mind spicy that may be a wonderful dish to try.

          I hope that helped
