  • KFC Double Down Sandwich

I just heard about KFC's new "Double Down" sandwich. At first I thought this was an April Fool's Day joke, but KFC has honestly taken one of their signature sandwiches and replaced the bread with more chicken. It comes with either fried chicken (11g carbs) or grilled chicken (3g carbs) including the sauce.

    Watch the commercial here:

KFC is pretty good for low-carbers anyway, but this is interesting. I'm not sure whether I should be weirded out or if I should go get one right now.

I'm interested in this...I looked @ the website and I couldn't find the carb info. If the sauce doens't have added sugar, i would think it's ok for the grilled one. I doubt the original recipe would be ATKINS friendly.

According to the KFC website, the grilled Double Down has 3g net carbs, 1g sugar from the sauce, 460 calories, 61g protein, 1430mg sodium and 23g of fat.

While this could be acceptable on Atkins, it really is a large amount of food for a partial meal. Lots of sodium too. I'm glad to see KFC offering another LC item though.

I had it today and reviewed it. We gave it a lukewarm three out of five stars.

I understand the eat healthy thing. I for the most part do that very thing. Sometimes though people want to eat things that may not really be as healthy for us as they should be.

I see a lot of posts you make to people that are abusive and patronizing in nature. I wonder if you get pleasure form this. I may be mistaken but I thought this board was for support and not for persons such as yourself to abuse other posters with a holier than thou attitude.

At first I got real excited about this but after seeing the ingredients and the sodium content, I think I'll pass on this. For the sake of convenience, it isn't worth the trouble it would inevitably cause. It sure is a "downer" alright!

Cleochatra's recipe looks far more enticing!

Thank you for the compliment! Mine tasted better, too.

Really, the sodium in the KFC iteration isn't a cause for alarm as something you have occasionally. It's not like people will eat these every day. There are some real alarmists out there in the media right now.
