  • Outback Veggie's beware

If anyone dines at the Outback Steakhouse, beware of the veggies. My friend is on ATKINS and she was eating the veggies a lot there because she works there, and doing everything else great, but wasn't losing any weight. She spoke to the cooks and they actually put brown sugar mixed with butter on all of the veggies. Make sure you ask the server about putting sugar on anything because you never know! Now she has to start it over again. Being on Atkins, I hardly go out to eat anymore...I trust my cooking much better.

Thanks for posting this. I always get the veggies when I go out to eat, and I never even THOUGHT about this, but of course it makes perfect sense that some restaraunts would put brown sugar in their veggies. Our favorite place is Red Lobster and although I haven't noticed anything (that I can remember, its been over a month) I'm going to make sure there is no sugar in my veggies.

SAY NO TO SUGAR !!!! EVIL! EVIL! :mad3

:boom :boom :boom :boom :boom :boom I never knew that about Outback. I thought that Outback would be a safe place to eat. Humm, I wonder if you can request it without the brown sugar mix.
If I said it, I meant it.

We ate at Outback for the first time this weekend. I asked the server about the brown sugar and she said, "no way!" I have to say, the veggies sure didn't taste sweet. They tasted like plain old veggies to me.

I'm sure different locations vary, as with anything similar to that. I live around the Boston area and the the cooks said that's what they do to the veggies. It is good to ask the server anything like that just in case.

Outback uses a brown sugar/pineapple/mustard glaze

Our son-in-law cooks at Outback here on Fl Gulf Coast.
Just checked with him and he said that they DO cook their grilled vegetables with a brown sugar/pineapple/mustard glaze.
You can ask your server to tell the kitchen to leave off the "mustard glaze" and they will be happy to accommodate you.
(The grilled shrimp also has this glaze.)

            FYI
They will give you double vegetables as a substitution for any entree that has rice included. Just ask.
