  • Wasabi Mash

So after finishing off my sashimi, i had a bit of wasabi left (amazingly) and unable to bear the thought of just throwing it away in all of its green glory, i mashed it into some steamed cauliflower with salt and a dab of butter. Very awesome.

That sounds great - wasabi is a favorite thing of mine. I've been buying the wasabi mayo for my burgers.

I usually get it at Trader Joe's. All the ingredients are even induction legal and it's so good!

I've seen it at Walmart too (different brand, can't remember what they carry).. but it's not quite as good. And I don't remember if I checked the ingredients on that one.

I was having withdrawal for a while. They stopped selling it. Ack!! Now it's back though so I pick up 3 or 4 jars at a time. I wish there was one closer to me, I have to drive 30 minutes to get there.

                Re: Wasabi Mash

I was thinking about making wasabi from scratch as I heard that it was really good that way, first I looked for carb information carb-counter.org it says that one cup raw uncooked wasabi has 15.74 net carbs!

Good grief, I think wasabi paste made from real wasabi is pretty uncommon, mostly it's made with horsradish. Thats probably a good thing!

                      Re: Wasabi Mash

it's a member of the japanese cabbage family. lol I just looked it up.

The only way I have seen it is a green mushy paste and it's HOT. I like most hot things but not wasabi.
Funny story my sister and I went to eat at an oriental restaraunt and they had it on the buffet and my sister being a brainiac thought it was guacamole so she got a large amount of it and we sat down at the table before the drinks came and she took a massive bite of it and her eyes started pouring and she was dying from the heat of course I was laughing hysterically. I had never tried it before I just stuck the tip of my fork in it and put it to my tongue and it was hot.
I have no idea why she thought they'd have guacamole at an oriental place. lol I've never seen it there.

There's a link with some good info. It tastes just about like horseradish only not quite as strong. (The real stuff, at least. Sometimes what we think is wasabi has actually been made with horseradish.)

Mixed with mayo it makes an excellent sauce for meats.

                        Love it!

This sounds great, wasabi mayo, I don't care for mayo much with a kick like wasabi, which I love will be good.

On a side note a funny story...when my eldest was a baby he would grab my chopsticks while I was eating sushi and dip it in my wasabi...then proceed to put it in his mouth and never flinched. Now he's wuss, everything is spicy to him.
