  • No more than 5 carbs a day for the last month. I feel weird.

    I have been extremely strict on the no carbs thing. It worked for me before when I was 230lbs and got to 190 lbs at 6' (male) tall.

    I got tired of seeing my belly and know that no amount of sit ups will make abs appear if you have fat covering your abs.

    So I took the plunge and for the last month I have basically eaten almost no carbs at all.

    I know I am a retard for doing this, so please spare me the lectures. I am here because I know I need some assistance as I have not been doing this whole thing the right way, despite the weight loss.

    Lately I have been getting really shakey and have passed out several times while get up from a sitting position. Today is the first time I was sitting and began to feel the extreme light headedness and it almost felt like I was about to pass out but I was all tingly...

    So.... looking for some help here. I don't want to eat things that will make all this hard work worthless as my body celebrates a carb influx, and I turn to a chunky guy again.

    OK, so how about following Atkins the way it was written and see if you feel better? Reading the book would be a good start, or st least the stickies at the top of these forums...3 cups of veggies/day, an iron-free multivitamin, max 3-4oz cheese / day, minimum 1/2 daily carbs from veggies...

    Also make sure that you are eating enough and drinking a minimum of 64oz water / day.

      Well luckily your recognize that you need some assistance. I agree with Julie & you should read the book. Then do Atkins the way that Dr. Atkins intended. 20 net carbs per day not starving & depriving yourself.

        Let's see.... Did you read "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution", the 2002 edition? If not, I would strongly recommend you do. Since Atkins is a lifestyle, with four different phases, not only Induction, the book will teach you how to do things correctly and progress through all the phases of the program while losing weight and, later, maintaining your goal weight.

        During Induction, do not eat anything that is not on the Acceptable Foods List for Induction, regardless of the number of carbs it has. As you will see when you check the Acceptable Foods List, there are two lists of veggies: salad vegetables and other vegetables. During Induction, you eat three cups of vegetables (as Julie wrote), but only one cup at most can come from the other vegetables list. All these details and more are explained in the FAQs.

        Also, before starting Atkins, Dr. Atkins told us to see a doctor and have a set of medical tests done (this is also explained in DANDR 2002).

            Think I could find that book at a Library? For now I will check out the FAQs, I just wanted everyones opinion (which seems to be the same... read the book).

            By the way I also regularly take 1 - 2 mg of Alprozalam.

              Meat, eggs, and cheese. I also drink almost a gallon of water a day due to my job and the Florida humidity.

                  If you're at your goal weight as you say, why don't you just slowly progress up the rungs starting with extra vegetables? I'm almost certain that extra vegetables won't make a toned stomach turn into jello.

                    The book should be available at your local library. You may also be able to find a copy at a thrift shop.

                      I'd ditto the "more veggies" advice. Too few carbs can make you light-headed. You need more carbs than five grams per day, and veggies are a safe way of adding them in.... slowly.

                        you should be able to get a relatively inexpensive copy of DANDR on www.amazon.com or www.half.com. Mine cost less than $5.00 including shipping and it was a brand new copy. At least if you purchase a copy of the plan you won't have to worry about getting it back to the library without getting a fine.

Atkins was never written or meant to be meat, eggs, cheese only....that is a terrible misconception that makes people believe Atkins is an unhealthy "diet" -- when it fact the plan was written for us to eat more vegetables than we were eating before we started this plan.

                        Good luck on reading the book and following Atkins the correct way.
