Re: Arthritis is a real NUISANCE!

I shall certainly have a word with my GP, I am taking ibuprofen and co-codamol and need tablets to help me sleep so it would be a good thing to have something other than a pill to rely on.

Re: Arthritis is a real NUISANCE!

I am on Tramadol and co-codamol now and have had to have morphine tablets in the past plus sleeping tablets. I realise how debilitating this can be, at my worst I was in a wheelchair for 5 months and on antidepressents because my knees kept giving way and I was having some nasty falls and ending up in A&E and hospital stays, this was prior to my knee replacements.
But I have found biofreeze to not only help the joints on a day to day basis but even after operation once the scar has healed enough to use it.

Wow Jules you must have suffered some pain. I will be seeing my doctor in March and if I have lost enough weiight he will put me on the list for new knees. I know that other joints are affected already. My hips, shoulders and writsts hurt but nothing like my knees. I don't think anyone realises just how painful arthritis can be. Did you find that the pain was worse in wet weather or is this just me?

Re: Arthritis is a real NUISANCE!

Hi yes no one knows unless they have arthritis themselves or a similar every day every minute pain can realise how bad things get for us.
I still do suffer some pain, but not as bad as it was. I still have really bad days too.
Yes I still find that my pain is worse when the weather is wet and cold.
I am due for my first weigh in tomorrow, but couldn't wait to measure my waist as I felt it had lost quite a bit and I've lost 3.25" from around my waist in just the first week! Hope my weight loss is just as impressive. The first time I did this diet 8 years ago I lost 10lb in the first week, fingers crossed x
How much more weight do you need to loose for him to do the knee replacements?

Re: Arthritis is a real NUISANCE!

Congratulations on your size loss!!!!! I find that I am losing weight more slowly than size. I probably need to lose another 14lbs. Until recently I was doing very little excersise and using the pain in my knees as excuses. Now I have to walk my dog and the walk I take is about a mile round trip. I am doing this each day and yesterday I did it twice. The pain doesn't seem worse and to be honest even if it were I would just take extra painkillers as I need to lose weight.

Re: Arthritis is a real NUISANCE!

Yes I know what you mean. Somedays I can do more and not be in as much pain and some days I can do very little and be in agony. I am going to try to more exercise, I have two dogs, but can't take them both out together on my own. I don't suppose I will loose that much in size in one week again, it will be much slower from now on. You should be able to loose 14lb by May if you keep on track, so stick with it.
I just take painkillers as and when I need them.
              Keep up the good work.

Well keep me up to date on how you get on. I think you are right about the pain killers I am beginning to recognise when I need them and when I can do without them. I will be speaking to my GP about the rub as apart from anything else rubbing is comforting.

Keep with the Atkins and I am sure you will soon notice the benefits lets face it our poor old weight bearing knees don't have so much weight to bear.

Re: Arthritis is a real NUISANCE!

Yes I have a daily tolerating pain and then more severe pain when I take the painkillers.
I like to have a long hot bath when my joints are bad as that soothes them for a while.
If your doctor can't prescribe the biofreeze then get it off ebay as its cheaper on there.
Yes I will stick with the diet, as long as I loose something every week I will be fine, its when I don't that I loose sight and motivation for what I'm doing.
But would like to be a size 12 for my daughters wedding next year.
How much are you loosing on a weekly basis?
                  Best wishes

Re: Arthritis is a real NUISANCE!

To be honest I am not losing on a weekly basis. I started eating an induction on 1 november 2010 weighing in at 270.8lbs yesterday I weighed 250.8lbs but it certainly does not come off regularly every week in fact the weekly loss is very low sometimes just 1lb but it is a 1lb gone rather than gained. I feel better, although I should drink more I am drinking fruit teas at the moment as it is a bit cold to drink the cooled water which is how I like it.

I am at the stage where I don't feel like eating a lot and I certainly don't get tempted by carbs. I am living on my own at the moment and it is soooooo much easier than when my hubs is around to suggest something bad.

Well like you say you are still loosing and even 1lb is better gone than added. You have done so well and lost 20lbs already, a great acheivement!
I'm not a water or fruit juice drinker, I drink loads of decaf tea though. I should drink more water, but I don't.
Where is hubby at the moment then, if you don't mind me asking?
My hubby is doing the diet too so that makes it easy for me.

It's a long and painful story which you can read all about in my journal. Usually we do the diet together because he is a diabetic but he sometimes allows himself to fall by the wayside and sometimes he pulls me with him.

This is the best I have done without really going off induction. I drink decaffe coffee black as well as the tea but I think the drinking helps to flush out your system. Drinking enough water means that your body does not retain water so you are helping the weight loss if you drink plenty.

Jules you are not prying at all it is just that I wrote everything in my journal and don't really want to go off topic by talking about my problems again. Please pop into my journal it would be nice to see you some very supportive people join me there regularly, in-fact I don't know how I could have gone through all this without them.

Good luck with the weight loss and water drinking it really is worth all this effort even if it stops my doctor blaming every singl ache and pain onto my weight.

Yes I know what you mean about some doctors blaming pain with weight you are carrying around, and yes I do believe it has an impact.... BUT I lost weight and still had just as much pain, whether it was because mine had become so advanced I don't know, but it has to do with family history and your lifes impact on your joints, sports, work and every day usage. My dads side, my dad and his mum had knee replacements but much older than me, I am the youngest at 40 years old to have them.
Now that I have them, I am hoping that combined with loosing weight and strengthening the muscles in my legs I will be almost back to normal for once in many years. I have been in pain since I was around 25 years old and 24/7 pain since I was about 33 years old. I have been very low many time and have had night terrors with the stress of it all. But I am onwards and upwards now and am focusing on a better slimmer future.
I also would like to share that with you.
People can be a great strength, I have joined sites like this for my knee problems and when I was trying for a baby with my new husband but unfortunately miscarried and now with weight loss and found these sites very inspiring, motivating, supportive and friendly. I'm glad you have found this too.
How do I get to your journal hun?
                              Kindest regards

This should find me Jules. I don't know my family history I was a foster child. I really feel that I just walked, stood and carried too much weight and just wore my knees out. All my life I have done jobs where a lot of standing for many hours was what I did, catering and nursing is all standing. Like you though I am looking forward to a happier future and one where I can be healthy.
