  • Oh no, I think I have yeast!!

I did the spit test about 5 days ago. Looked fine. Decided to try it again this morning - legs and then cloudy and sank to the bottom!!! I am very upset over this. Did I get this from eating too much cheese and mushrooms and such lately??? I truly do not know how I am going to do Atkins without being able to eat all the things that make it worthwhile. I don't know if I am that strong yet Am I wrong in believing, from what I read, that it is possible to re-introduce the foods again or pretty much never again if I find out what is causing this? Please tell me what supplements and where you find them and I will start asap.
This is what I have been eating mostly lately: saus stuffed mushrooms, flax bread, broc/caul. salad, coffee with Davinci SF syrup, quiche - everything I have been eating has something in it that I will not be able to have now. I am so confused and afraid that this is going to be the Kiss of Death for me.

I can't answer many of your questions because I am new to this yeast as well. One thing I noticed in your post though, is that your eating flax and Sugar free syrup. These are not included in the Induction menu. They may be causing you some problems. Also watch your cheese intake (3-4oz.daily). I have cut out cheese, cream, and mushrooms. These were the only foods on the list that I was eating that contain yeast. I love cheese, but it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be.

I went on the review my menu and ext induction board and both said that flax and SF syrups were induction friendly. The syrups are a liquid form of splenda which is considered 0 carbs. are you taking supplements? Can the problem be corrected with just supplements and reducing the amounts of cheese and yeast causing ingredients??? This stinks!!

I'm taking a multi-vitamin, a yeast reducer from a health food store, and a probiotic. I'm looking up the flax right now. I didn't know this was ok to have. I thought it was on the grain rung of OWL. I would love to try those flax muffins everyone talks about.

Momtofour - click on the link to my thread when I made the request about these items. Be sure to see Moochie cat's response. I have a mentor who lost 310 pounds on Atkins and she gave me the recipe for flax bread and all and said it was ok on induction as well. I don't know if maybe it is not listed but added on etc. Not sure. But here it is

          http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=15195

I am gonna get a yeast reducer and probiotic TOMORROW just to be on the safe side.

          Thanks,

Re: Oh no, I think I have yeast!!

            Kelly,
Are you having symptoms from overgrowth of yeast? Are you not able to lose weight? I notice you haven't been a member for all that long and you have lost 18 pounds. That is a good amount to have lost in a short time.

You only need to follow the strict KISS diet if you are having symptoms, like yeast infections, brainfog, rashes, but mainly that you cannot lose weight while following Induction strictly.

We don't recommend this WOE unless it is warranted!!

It could be that you are just eating to much of the foods that promote yeast to build up. So I reccomend that you cut back on the mushrooms, cheese and artificial sweetners. Make sure you aren't eating more than Dr. A recommends.

I will wait to hear from you, before I make any more suggestions.

              Becky sue,

Thank you so much for this recommendation. I was hoping that is all I would have to do. (I don't recommend KISS woe either, ha ha - don't wanna do it )I have had brain fog(bad, see my other post about the test) and I did lose 18 in the first 4 weeks, the last 2.5 weeks - nada. So, I was thinking I am gonna cut out cheese all together for a few days/week, and mushrooms and decrease the sweeteners. Plus, I am going to go on a probiotic just to make sure. Do you think that think this will be enough? I figure if I need to cut more out, I can do it from there. I think I am definately eating too much cheese.

I hope you don't mind but I want to give you an idea of some of my staples and let me know if these would be ok still -

flax bread (I do use Davinci SF syrup to flavor)

              quiche (has heavy cream)

Broccoli Cauliflower Salad (I can cut out the 1/4 cup of shredded cheese but this is divided up into 6 servings so maybe not too bad?)

              Caeser or Ranch dressings

Is mayo ok to use still?

I really appreciate your help on this. You have no idea

Re: Oh no, I think I have yeast!!

                Kelly,
You have lost 18 pounds in Induction, that is great! It is not that uncommon for you to not lose weight say for 2 or more weeks after a big loss like your 18. You body has to catch up. You have to be patient and not get into a big toot! Are you measuring yourself? If not you should be. Read on the main forum a thread(Why the scale can lie to you) It explains how you are losing, but the scale doesn't show it because of fluid retention. If you are losing inches you are making progress!!!
                http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6737
Why the scale lies to you

It could be that if you will eat more unprocessed foods that your weight will start going on down. I do think you should cut the cheese down to a minimum. Cheese can cause slow losses.

all the foods you listed like sweetners, cream, cheese, mayo can be a problem if you truely have a yeast problem, but I am not sure you have this problem. Be sure and don't over the limit on these foods, like the good Dr. A sets for us.

I suggest you are real careful to eat these foods that can cause proplems to a minimum and see if you start losing. If you don't start losing cut the dang food out.

I do recommend the KISS diet to some people, expecially to me. But I don't think you are to the point that you need to go this strict. Lucky you!!

We all have to experiment and see what works for each and everyone of us. You are your own science project. what works for one won't work for another. I wish you great success in finding the path that works for you.

Just remember: Nothing tastes as good as being thinner. !!!!!!!!!!!!!! My motto!
For me if I have to cut a food out that I love to lose weight ,I will. Food is no longer what I live for, I now live for me and food just keeps me alive. We have to change how we look at food, change our mindset!

I hope I have helped you and if I can help with more, just ask!
                Happy Low Carbing!

Re: Oh no, I think I have yeast!!

Well, this is what I had yesterday:

                  Breakfast:
coffee with 2 tbsp of light cream and 1 tbsp of Davinci SF syrup
                  2 eggs
1 slice of flax bread - plain, no butter or cream cheese

Snack - 2 oz sliced grilled chicken

                  Lunch
2 cups of lettuce with grilled chicken, pepperoni and jalepeno ranch dressing.

                  Dinner

6oz of salmon with 2 tbsp of mayo/mustard dip
6 jumbo shrimp grilled with oil,red pepper, garlic, oregano, basil and a splash of hot sauce
                  1 cup of broccoli

Snack: None - I was a good girl.

                  Water: 96 oz of water

I did have coffee with cream and syrup in the morning. I also had for me, mild amounts of dairy. I could have went with oil and vinegar instead of ranch. Do you think this was a good meal plan for the day to help reduce yeast? The scale did go down 1 pound this morning but I have been up and down with the same 3 pounds for 2.5 weeks so its not a loss I can add to my total. I just want to know if this sounds acceptable.

                  Thanks,

                  Kelly

You can give this a try and see if you get the results you are looking for, but.... if it doesn't work you will need to cut the yeast promoting foods(cream, sweetners, vinegar, ranch dressing( it has vinegar in it and so does mustard, mayo has vinegar too) I know this is not what you are wanting to hear but it may be what you have to do.
I use lemon juice and olive oil for my salad dressing with fresh herbs. Dried herbs have mold in them and this promotes yeast.

Here is what I eat: Example
                    Breakfast:
2 to 3 eggs( fried, hard boiled, poached)
                    1 red bell pepper

                    Lunch:
4 to5 oz. ground beef cooked in my geo forman grill
2 cups toss salad with lemon juice and olive oil for dressing

                    Snack:
                    1 small cucumber

                    Supper:
                    Tuna salad
(tuna in oil, drained, onion, red bell pepper, celery, mayo(I used to make my own mayo, but now I use store bought) Served on a lettuce leaf.
                    cherry tomatoes, maybe some cauliflower.
I drink 1 gallon of water daily

I try to eat unprocessed foods mostly. This is what kills the yeast. It has nothing to feed on, so it dies.

Remember if you are hungery do eat a snack, just make it unprocessed legal induction list food. Use www.fitday.com to keep track of your percentages and your calories. Figure your BMR to see if you are eating within the right amount of calories http://www.countcarbs.com/tools/basal_metabolism.htm

The best to you finding what works for you.
