  • I've beaten the Yeasties....for now!

After following the Gold Standard diet faithfully for 2 months, I finally passed the spit test. After the first week, I felt so much better than I had before. This was my main reason for following the diet, not dropping weight. I've always been a slow loser & I don't really expect that to change, even with lots of exercise.

The other day, I made a mushroom dish that also had a little bit of parmesan cheese in it. It was heavenly! This was the first time I ate off of the GS diet. When a week has passed by, I will redo the spit test to see if that meal causes me to relapse into a yeast-haven or not. If not, I will make the same mushroom meal again & then wait another week on GS.

My reason for doing this is so that I can figure out what foods I can eat & those I can not. Since mushrooms & parmesan cheese are my two favorite items that went away with GS, they are the ones I chose to reintroduce back into my diet. After one month passes of being yeast-free, I will reintroduce something else & play the wait and see game.

If at anytime I end up positive for the yeast again OR start feeling terrible again, I will go back to the GS diet until I'm clear again. I will then know that mushrooms and/or parmesan cheese is not in my life plan for eating. I will then try something else.

I just wanted to let ya'll know that yeast can be overcome with persistance & sticking faithfully to the GS diet. Everyone is different in how they respond & how long it takes to be yeast-free. For me, this first round took 2 months. We'll just see how long I can remain that way.

        Thanks gals!

Gala, I will always check up on you, girl! If there's anything I can do to help, I'm available. I may not know the answer, but we can find it together. I think of this battle as a life-long thing. Some days I'm going to win, other days the yeast will.

I took psyllum husks 3x a day with no ill effects against my yeast battle. However, everyone is different, so you may just have to try it and see. *HUGS*

            congrats on finally getting clean.

keep taking your supplements as you add back the foods. everybody has to do what you are doing and test and retest. even if fruits don't effect a person this month that doesn't mean after an infection with antibiotic treatment they will not have to give it all up again for a few weeks as they get those nice friendly bacteria growing again. and if you get hold of a containinated batch of food you can be reinfected even if that food didn't effect you before. it is a vicious battle.

Dear Bio! I'm so proud of you ! You should be proud of yourself too! Way to go!

I'm just curious what difference you felt after a week or so of being on GS??

Just curious if some of the things I am feeling are also as a result of this yeast.

              take care

Re: I've beaten the Yeasties....for now!

Gala, I didn't get bored with my food. I'm not much of a fancy eater anyway, so I tend to eat the same foods most days. Some may think I have a boring menu, but I know which foods are safe for me, etc. There were foods I certainly did miss, but I got around that or over it. I love cheese, but I certainly will not be eating it like I used to. I know the chances of reinfection is high, but that's why I'm incorporating new foods slowly. I think what I really miss the most is the use of spices...I just drool every time I walk by the Indian restaurant, it just smells so good! Because of the GS diet, I've been eating tons more veggies than I ever did before. There's a wide variety of veggies, too, and I've yet to try even a quarter of what's at the grocers.

Thank you, 2Big! I do plan on continuing with the supplements, most likely for the rest of my life. It's a habit that's pretty set now.

Diva, after a couple of days of clean GS eating, my head was no longer in the clouds. I could think clearer than I ever had before. Also, the constant bloating and pressure I felt in my gut was gone. I felt like I had lost a tire's worth of gas in just a week. Also, it seemed like I was always tired and had body aches for no apparent reason. All of that is gone now. I can't really say that all of my symptoms were related to the yeast overgrowth, but they certainly are gone now. I will, however, keep these symptoms in mind as I reintroduce foods. The symptoms may show up before there's enough yeast for a postitive spit test. I just don't know. I am still learning as much as I can about yeast, so I consider myself a newbie at this.

Re: I've beaten the Yeasties....for now!

Here it is, Feb 21, 2007...almost a year has passed since becoming free of my yeast battle. I'm happy to report that all is well and still no yeast. I still take many supplements and I have my list of safe foods and ones that cause me ill will!

I took my time in adding back foods to make certain they were safe for me to eat without feeding the yeast. It's similar to climbing the rungs of OWL and seeing if you've gained weight with additional carbs in your diet.

I'm still a slow loser, but that's being a zero loser!

To anyone battling the yeasties, good luck & be persistent! It can be done!!!!
