  • GS Day1-tons of questions!

So, yesterday I received my supplements (caprylic acid and probiotics) and today has been Day 1 of my battle against yeast!!!
It hasn't been that bad food wise cause I had already cut cheese and mushrooms of my diet quite a while ago!
I know I will be missing mayo and spices though!

I don't want believe it's because of GS, it would be damn pretty soon, but my body is like a stone, heavy legs, heavy foot, even heavy breath, and I have been so tired all day long! Probably I should look for the cause somewhere else but did anybody experience this while following GS?

I cannot go without mayo and want to try to make some myself. Is lemon allowed in GS? As i cannot put any vinegar I though some squeezed lemon will be the best!

I need some ideas to replace my spices as well. I have always used a ton to add some flavour to food and today my beef was not as tasteful as it used to be, same for the lamb chops and for my salad.
I used a lot of garlic though. Does anybody know if onion is allowed?

Gala, why don't you post a sample menu of a typical day for you. I had the opposite effect when I started GS...I gained energy.

Unfortunately, you can not use lemons or limes as an acid source to make mayo, etc. However, what I did while on GS was to use a citric acid solution instead of vinegar or lemons. Citric acid is the natural sour component in lemons, limes, oranges, etc. You can buy citric acid as a powder or in liquid form. Some of the liquid forms can also have flavorings that are familiar to you (lemons, limes, etc). I used the powder form and dissolved it in water. You won't miss vinegar or lemons with the citric acid! I didn't anyways. You can buy citric acid on-line or at a health food store. I believe I saw the flavored citric acid in a King Arthur Flour catalog.

Like you, I love using spices & missed using them while on GS. Onions are not allowed because they also have sugar. However, instead of the bulb type onion, I used green onions which have a really low sugar content. Basically, it's like any veggie, only it has an oniony taste. I used a lot of garlic, green onions, and also some fresh ginger. Ginger does have some carbs, but since you don't use a lot, the carbs are very minimal.

Hope this helps you, Gala! *HUGS*

      Hi bio!!!!!!
thank you so much for your post, I knew i can count on you!
i am going to buy some citric acid right away....have you ever tried to use it to make some home made mayo?
Garlic are not a prob: i love them. Green onions are already in my stock as for the ginger, never tried it, how do you use it?

this is what I had yesterday!

BF- pork chops + arugula salad

Lunch - stir fry: ground beef, red&green peppers, fresh chives, fresh leeks, freshly ground black pepper, olive oil, garlic

Dinner - lamb chops, fresh rosemary, olive oil, garlic + green cabbage

As for the supplements I took
caprylic acid in the morning and before going to bed
probiotic before lunch and before dinner

how does it look to you?

        Hiyas Gala!

Ginger is a root, so it doesn't look like your typical veggie. It's used alot in Asian cooking and has a pungent, peppery taste. Ginger has a thin, light brownish skin on the outside that you can easily scrape off with a spoon. You can then thinly slice, grate, or pulverize into a pulp your ginger. Beware of withered ginger...too old! Ginger is very aromatic & a little goes a long way. It would have been great to add to your stir fry and is a good match to garlic in dishes. I would not eat ginger on its own, especially fresh, because it IS powerful! However, some people do or they make candied ginger. Don't buy the candied ginger.

I did use the citric acid to make my mayo...it was delicious! Citric acid is what food & beverage companies use in many of their products. It's everywhere!!!

Your menu looks just fine to me. I'm not certain why your sympoms are getting worse. Perhaps you should get a check-up with the doctor to make certain everything is ok.

As for your supplements, I think you should be taking more of them to kill of the yeast. I know you eat a lot of garlic, but probably not enough to really kill 'em, so I recommend garlic capsules and Oil of Oregano for starters. If you can't find those supplements in your town, you can order them from Swanson's. They ship worldwide & neither of these items are restricted for shipment to the UK. http://www.swansonvitamins.com/

        Good luck sweetie!

Thanks for your support bio!!!! it does really mean a lot to me right now!!!

I know ginger and tried it already but didn't know how to use it in my food. thanks for your tip, I am going to give it a try early next week!

I feel better today, probably it was tireness due to my current hectic life style ( I am moving out in one week and gosh, how much I got left to do), my legs are still heavy though. going to see the doctor if I don't feel better in a couple of days!

I know I have to take this regimen day by day but girl, I don't know how you could manage to follow this plan for two months without any trouble!!! you rock bio and you are such an inspiration to me! if you could do it I can too, can't I?
          mmmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hope so!

Good luck on the move, Gala! That's going to take a lot of effort. I would count moving as exercise!!

I guess it didn't bother me because I'm generally pretty busy & decided not to make food the center of my life. I think of food to fuel my body instead of a reward, for comfort, or because I was bored, etc.

Gala, I know you can follow the GS plan because you are a very determined woman! You CAN do it!!!

              Re: GS Day1-tons of questions!

              Thank you so much bio!!!!

Day 2 went pretty well. I had enough time yesterday to plan ahead my food so, no problem so far. the most difficult thing for me is planning; I am pretty busy as well and have never eaten because of boredom but what gets me is actually making the wrong choices when I am out all day and feeling hungry. I definately have to work on that.

I found a uk web-site where I can buy oil of oregano from. placed the order already and hope it won't take long to have it delivered

              ready to go!!!!

                Re: GS Day1-tons of questions!

Glad to hear you'll be getting your OoO soon! I think you'll notice a difference when you start taking it.

I think planning is one of the toughest part of any eating style. You just have to make certain that you're never hungry to the point that you'll do something bad! Carry snacks with you so that you're never without a good source of food & are not stuck with the crap that's readily available. We all make choices, but winners make the choices that losers fail to do. I KNOW you're a winner!

                Get 'em tiger!

                    Re: GS Day1-tons of questions!

as for mayo you can make your own using that organic apple cider vinegar that is supposed to help with the yeasties. if you look in the recipe forum several folk have ask about it I think they should stickie the mayo recipes in here for y'all.

Yeast dieoff can cause the fatigue you had we had a fellow back in 2003 that had to stay in the hospital after a trip to the ER when he had yeastie dieoff he had it so bad.

Hang in there and once you get your gut back in balance you shuld be feeling lots better.

                      Re: GS Day1-tons of questions!

Thank you so much for your help 2big!
I have been looking for the apple cider you told me about
can you have a look at this before I ordered it from the web-site?
                      http://www.worldwideshoppingmall.co....er-vinegar.asp

as for your suggestion I completely agree in being useful to have a sticky with the home made mayo suitable for GS dieters. And maybe this forum should have its own little recipes thread cause everytime I go to the recipes forum for ideas I run into tons of cheese and cream and splenda that easily get me discouraged!!!

                      thanks again!

                        Re: GS Day1-tons of questions!

If apple cider vinegar is what you want to consume, then the one that you have linked is fine as it's unpasturized & has the mother. My family likes Bragg's apple cider vinegar, but I don't know if they sell it in the UK. They do have a web site, but shipping may be really high for you.

One thing I want to point out is if you're following the GS diet, you still can not have apple cider vinegar because it is a fermented product, hence no mayo, mustard, etc. Fermented anything is out.

If you believe that you'll be ok with the vinegar, then you can follow the KISS diet, which is a lot more flexible than the GS diet. You're allowed mayo & vinegar on the KISS diet. Then you don't even have to worry about making your own mayo unless you just want to.

You can always do KISS & see if you can beat the yeast that way. If you feel that you're not getting anywhere after a certain length of time (everyone is different), then try the GS diet.

                        Just my 2 cents.

I was going to do KISS, but thought otherwise. Basically, if I"m going to restrict my diet in that way, I'm going all the way. That's how I viewed it. I didn't want to extended my restricted diet any more than I had to. I don't know yet if I can eat fermented items yet, but if so, would that have caused my battle to last longer than 2 months? Dunno. My personal goal was to eat as clean of a diet as I could, and I saw that with the GS diet. I saw it as a very healthy eating plan b/c of the fresh veggies, meats with nothing preserved. Something about that just appeals to me.

I'm doing groovy, thanks for asking, dear!

Keep us updated on your KISS diet!
