  • Spit test question

    Hi everyone,

I was reading about Julie's issue with yeast so decided to try a spit test just out of curiousity this morning.

I don't have any of the symptoms listed in DANDR or in relation to yeast problems. But I have had a lot of problems losing weight beyond a certain stage and have had to cut carbs right down.

Anyway, it did look cloudy and had 'legs'. So should I try at cut things out? Will it just get worse? I am loathe to leap into the KISS diet for example because it says be sure you need to do it before you do because it is hard to add things back in.

    Any thoughts?

      Re: Spit test question

Alexa, did you take the questionnaire at www.theyeastconnection.com ? There are many symptoms we don't think of that are yeast-related.

However, if the spit test came back positive, you do have a yeast overgrowth.

One good thing about the KISS diet is that it's also a food-allergy diet--it will help you figure out food sensitivities/allergies. I read that part about making sure you really want to do it because it's hard to add stuff back in. The way I look at the KISS plan is, this is how I should be eating ANYWAY, and I should not be eating those other foods so often. I'm sure you'll have no problems adding foods back in and eating them occasionally, the goal is to not make them the FOCUS of your daily diet.

            Re: Spit test question

I am curious first off who invented this test and how it orignated as not one of the 23 Doctors I have called and asked have EVER heard of this method. I called General Practitioner's and Gynocologists, and a cpl of internal med doctors. I even called a cpl dieticians. Not one of these doctors have heard of a spit test to check for candida overgrowth. Why is this?

              Re: Spit test question

Most doctors don't even believe in candida overgrowth as a real health problem.

Just like most doctors don't think that Atkins is healthy.

It's impossible for ALL doctors to know EVERYTHING ALL of the time. However, Dr. Crook was a doctor, and his book, The Yeast Connection is held in high regard by those who believe in the concept of yeast overgrowth.

                Re: Spit test question

                Julie,

Thanks for the info. I can see why this may be controversial.

On the test I scored 75 which means yeats problems are possible. Many of the symptoms I had are related to hypothyroidism, so I don't know whether that means yeast is less likely to be problem or more - as hypo is itself a symptom.

I'll take the yeast test again tommorrow and think a little more.

Tbh I don't know if I have it in me to cut yet more from my diet. I know this is kinda wussy, but I'm not sure I could stick with it. My experience so far is that something removed cannot be added back in and I don't want to wind up with even less options.

                Thanks for the help though

                  Re: Spit test question

I think the key with adding things back in is that they have to be added back in very small increments very slowly. Someone on here has a wheat allergy and they started out with half of a wheat cracker per week, now they're up to half of a piece of bread per week I think.

For me it was the only option. What I had been doing was NOT working, and something was wrong. My body feels so much better now, I'm not bloated, I feel lean and mean. Even Geoff noticed that he was less bloated and that his pants fit better, and the guy is a string bean.

It's a personal choice. From your questionnaire, it's possible that you might not have a serious overgrowth. Therefore doing the KISS diet might not be the best choice. Geoff is on a plan from the book that eliminates yeast, fermented foods, sugars, molds, and fungus. But he still can eat some fruit, some starchy veggies, grains. I made him corn/wheat muffins without any yeast for breakfast. (Breads that are non-yeast are allowed on his plan.) Even with these foods, his spit test improved DRAMATICALLY.

So, if you decide that you do want to change your diet, there are many options, not just KISS.

                    Re: Spit test question

That's a good point that I hadn't fully thought of. I think I might try the approach in DANDR first. I need a good time to do it though and socialising wise these next few weeks are not it - I'll wait until mid March if I do attempt this.

                    Thanks

                          Re: Spit test question

Yikes! I just took Section A of this test and got 196! I just asked my doctor if I could have Candida, since a long time ago I dropped 20 pounds by going on Nystatin. She prescribed 7 days if Diflucan. I thought this drug is only a one-dose thing? Would this help me jump start a regimen of KISS? I did read The Yeast Connection a long time ago (about 20 years) but I'm not really quite convinced yeast can be a systemic problem.

I just found this thread. I took the test - got a 351. Guess I know where I belong. My question - once you begin the KISS, how long before you start to see resolution of symptoms? I've had the dizziness for two years now - walk around, feeling like I just got off of a roller coaster. All the medical tests in the world were negative for cause. Just "Yep, you get dizzy". If changing to meats and fresh vegetables will help me feel better, I"m there!
