  • Ready to start but totally confused on supplements

Okay, I have been down to 123 lbs(for a minute! hehe) but my body keeps gravitating toward 130. I'm not 'cheating' but have always been a slow loser and when I'm not on induction, I gain. I was barely 100lb in college and about 120-125 in between each of my 4 kids (and probably should have been at about 115; I wasn't watching what I ate at all), so I should at least be able to reach 120.

After reading this board, and looking online, I did the test and immediately got positive results. Not surprising, as I have major allergies (get allergy shots), and one of my biggies is mold. I am also prone to sinus infections (ie. another round of anitbiotics).

So I'm ready to begin! But in reading everything, I'm totally confused... there is so much conflicting info on what to eat and what not to eat... let me ask a few questions to those who are so wise on this board!!!

What supplements do I take and when?
    1. I've picked up Oil of Oregano in softgel form (150mg), Dr.A. in the 'Vita-Nutrient Solution' suggests 2-4 drops, anyone know how that compares?

    2. Also a post by 2big said to take them sep. from the probiotics ... so I take the OoO in the morning and noon, and Acidophilus at night? And how much Acidophilus? In Dr.A's 'VNS' he states 1-3 tsp., mine is 100mg. If I have to take 2 capsuls a day, do I take them both at once or split them morning and night (and then when do I take the OoO?!)

    3. And isn't garlic an antifungal also? So can it be taken in place of OoO? Not nec. to take both?

    4. Where does raw unprocessed apple cider vinegar fall in here? Is that antifungal as well?

    5. Also in 'VNS' Dr.A suggests taking Pantethine, can I take Pantothenic Acid instead (there is a huge difference in $$ and I know one breaks down into the other). When would the best time to take them be?? Man, I hate taking all this stuff!

    6. Okay, how long do I take all this stuff?? Should I be rotating my antifungals every 2 weeks, I thought I read somewhere that your bacteria can become immune to one?

    7. Last but not least, can I take Advil if I get a headache from trying to keep all of this straight??!

Thanks for all your help, thank goodness for this bb!

My best advice is to give you this:

    Atkins KISS Plan
    (Keep It Simple Sweetie)
Written by Kiersten from Atkins & Lowcarb Friends

The goal of KISS is to focus on real foods.

Those two foods are natural meats and veggies.

What is not allowed is processed meats (bacon, sausage, deli meat, etc.), dairy, nuts & artificial sweetener (AS).

If it has been processed or altered by humans, DON’T eat it. Though bacon is meat, it’s processed – full of chemicals – so you can’t eat that. Same with sausage, ham, hot dogs, deli meats, etc.

Eat low to medium carb veggies – tomatoes are okay, for instance. Eat until you are full. You will feel fantastic.

For some of my favorite meals -- meatloaf (no ketchup, but load it with chunks of tomatoes!!!), with a side of green beans; steak with sautéed mushrooms(the mushrooms can cause a problem, it's mold) &(olive oil); grilled chicken and homemade salsa (chunks of tomato, cilantro, onion, jalapeno peppers, bit of salt & lime juice); scrambled eggs (yes, they are a meat); cucumber for a snack; side salads with oil and a little lemon or lime juice for a dressing or you can make your own dressing with natural herbs (this sounds time-consuming but you can do it); the list goes on!!!

It does get old but you will feel amazing and you WILL lose weight – and that’s the point!

In case you have noticed a resemblance, this is a lot like Neanderthin. Though Neanderthin allows fruit which is too high in sugar and nuts which is an intolerance for many people. The concept is, again, natural foods eaten by the caveman, before agriculture and manufacturing. If it takes a machine to make it, then it isn’t allowed on this diet!!!

I feel it’s important to NOT try this though unless you are truly stuck.

Last year my weightloss came to a screeching halt, for 9 months. I found this WOE(KISS) and my weightloss took off like a jack rabbit(2big described it that way) :yes
When you described that you are taking allergy shots and your allergy is to mold, I thought you were writing about me. I too take allergy shots and my allergy is to mold.
I did get some Nystatin(antifungal prescription) from my allergy Doctor. He said the nystatin works only in your gut and it really helped me to clean out the overgrowth of yeast. I took it for 2 months. You might consider consulting with your Dr. and see if you can get a prescription.
I am not an expert on suppliments. I can only tell you what I take daily.
Garlic, caprylic acid, oreganol oil, yeast defense essentials, it is a combination antifungal suppliment. I take this all in the morning. Then at night I take another yeast defense essentials and 2 acidophilus capsules before bed.

I think it is so important to not eat the foods that feed the yeast. You need to starve them out. That is why it is so important to eat only unprocessed foods , the ones discribed above in the KISS WOE. Some of us have to figure out what works for us as individuals to lose the weight.

I hope this helps you. Some people consult with experts in health food stores on just when to take the suppliments. You might consider doing this.
