  • Atypical Depression

This type of depression is very common in women. The feeling of depression will get better for a period and then worsen again. The symptoms of oversleeping, overeating, hypersensitivity to rejection (especially romantic rejection), and intermittent panic attacks, are characteristic of atypical depression. This type of depression usually begins in adolescence and, if untreated, will often continue throughout life.

I'm in need of some meds to help me. Do anyone else suffer with this? And what type of meds do you take?

    Thank you =)

I hope you feel better soon. what does your doctor recommend? ther are many med tests needed to be sure your dianosis is corr4ect as depression is a symptom of other medical ills like low thyroid and they should be ruled out first.

      Re: Atypical Depression

I remember an old doctor who I saw for a little over a year told me that I had Atypical Depression. He put it to me blunt that my depression is "situational". I disagree, its more than that.

I do need to get diagnosed correctly, but I don't have thyroid problems from the last test. Its hard living with depression and other quirks that I'm dealing with like paranoia: Thinking everyone is out to get me. I seriously think this way, the majority of the time. Its not easy living like this. I've been scared to get meds because of bad experiences.

Thank you for reaching out =)

        Re: Atypical Depression

I have depression. I saw the doctor, and she put me on Paxil. This was half a year ago. But I read that Paxil causes weight gain, so I stopped taking it on my own.

I wish I can say I feel better these days, but sometimes the suicidal thoughts to take over my mind. Just last night, I cried for about 2 hours before bedtime.

I know it's really not easy living like this. That's why I've attempted to give up in the past.

I'm sorry I can't give you an answer. I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

        *hugs*

Go back to the doctor and ask her to prescribe another antidepressant. Paxil made me gain weight and I quit taking it. But I did very well with zoloft. There are many types of antidepressants out there. Don't give up just because one isn't right for you. Discuss this with your doctor and work it out between the both of you. Please.

I remember how it seemed like I was always looking through a dirty window until I started taking zoloft. Then it seemed like everything got brighter afterwards.

          Good luck!

I know what you mean. I appreciate the hugs too, right back at you

It isn't easy because you can't control it, that's the part that is most frustrating to me.

            I appreciate your honesty .
