  • 2nd week in and now this!

I think this icon " " sums up exactly how I am feeling today, down to a tee!

I've been really commited to Atkins for the past 8 days and even kept my journal up to date as regular as clockwork (Journal Stats Forum). But today I've been my moodiest. Like a heroin addict craves herion, I'm craving carbohydrates. I never realised that I was such an addict! To top it all, I have also gone cold turkey on ALL caffeine drinks, not an easy challenge for a 5 coffees a day including Pro-Plus and Yeast Vite girl. But in all honesty, it's not the caffeine... it's definately the carbs!

Am I the only one feeling like this or is there a renowned Atkins terminology for my symptoms?

P.S I don't think the pending TOM is helping matters either. (sorry lads)

    Yours Grumperly

    Loz

    Hey loz,

Sorry you're having a rough go of it today. I know you're not the only one who has gone through the carb craves. I did, but I noticed mine more during the latter part of the first week. By the second week they seemed to disappear altogether. I found having a piece of cheese, or even better, having a little cream cheese helped me a bunch during those times. And yeah, TOM can be a killer. But you know what, you can get through this and I promise you it will get better very, very soon. Hang in there. You can do this!

Todays my 8th day back on induction and I want to eat everything in site, up and including the refrigerator.
Maybe there is a 8 day syndrome that we don't know about. I'm going to go to bed and forget it.

Loz, I think you'll find they are TOM cravings. They drive me bats. I want chocolate!

I was lucky and by sheer coincidence did my Induction just after so it was easy. Try some high fat stuff like cheese. I was a caffeine addict too. If you want nice flavour, here in Oz we get Douwe Egberts Moccona decaff - it's Dutch imported so maybe you can get it there. Tastes gorgeous and I have a spon of full cream in it.

thanks for your posts of support!

After I submitted this thread, I realised that I was being stupid... guess I just wanted to whinge. Thanks for lending me your ears. Today has been much better thanks, I have discovered that decaf tea, with teaspoon of cream and one splenda tab is enough to fight the cravings,

            Thanks again

Hey, it happens to most of us at one point or another. And see, you made it through just fine.

              Love your pic.

good for you not giving in. Mental cravings are worse then physical ones in my opionion cause we can fix the physical ones by depending our ketosis eliminating the trigger foods but as a carboholic we have to walk the tiger every meal having some carbs and the mental control it takes when you just got to have it can become a huge boulder in your path to Atkins WOE. (reminds me of Mr Spock when he was in that Vulcan reproductive mode thingie and had to get to his GF's place to mate to the point of having physical illness symptoms.)

                  Hey Loz!

Sometimes when I'm starting to feel weak, I just go to bed early...that way when I wake up it will be a new day and I can start with a new slate.

My TOM came during my second week of Induction and it bothered me a little, but I made it through. I drank water, ate some type of cheese, protein, olives, etc. for a snack and it helped. Find some good things you like to help you though the rough times...it makes it easier to be prepared.

                  Here's a link for some menu/snack ideas: http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/induction_menus/induction_menus.html

This is a great site for Induction meals. I hope you can find something you like.

                  Keep up the good work!!
