    Re: funk vs depression

i think i sorta missed something with the wellbutrin.... i gather one gal used it as a help and one gal isn't ready for that. the point is that a few members are offering different suggestions and self stories in order that something might be said to those posting and to the ones only lurking.

i am wondering, heidi, how are things today? did you have a better outlook for today since the posting was done yesterday? i know what you need...... A TRIP TO BARBIE'S HOUSE! i know that would perk you up!

i know that we are on different ends of the God issue but i think you would appreicate this. we went to church this morning and the sermon was on being joyous. for a couple of my buds here on the board, they would call that answered prayer. i tend to agree. i was/ am in this dark deep hole but a couple of peeps have thrown a life line and things are getting better.

i too have not been like this for very long. i hate taking anything. i think i have a fear of prescription drugs! i appreciate that someone else found something that could help and had i gone on for a couple more months, i might have sought out the "drug" help.

i do appreciate the feed back everyone has given.

I am sorry ...I am never sure who I am talking to here and I kind of jumped on the fact a brand name was used before thinking ...

I am really sorry if I was rude or offended you...but I deal with drug reps in my nightmares sometimes

Jimmie I am fine thanks for asking ...things are perfectly fine now the funk has broken thanks for all your words people ..to be honest I hate posting in the health sections on this board because of what I do for a living so I will just bow out and let this thread die now ...

Hi Heidi, glad you are out of the funk.
Your comment on the Welbutrin made me laugh, even though I am a Zoloft commercial person myself. Ya know the one with the little smiley faces that are frowning... anyway, Been there done that and don't like it at all. Also I have the constant problems (clinical depression) that I deal with and medicate for the years. I felt myself slipping about a month back and got into the Dr. to adjust my meds. I think things are going better for me now, just have problems with the appeitite and the meds but ya know, I have to force myself away.

Anyhoo, When I read the orig post, I thought of the commercial on TV. " Who does Depression effect" My response (everyone) then the "Who does Depression hurt?" My response (everyone and everywhere) Man, if you were in a depression, even if it was reactionary... you would feel the pain. Even your hair would hurt.

But I'm so glad to hear that you are out of the DARK SIDE. Now ya can come out and play, play, play.
          I'll be rooting for you..ok.

          peace and blessings

my son actually takes Wellbutrin and I am all about taking stuff if you need it mind you ..I am after all a nurse..but sometimes I think there is a rapid jump to meds when people are feeling blue for a while...

it could also have been hormones for me you know ...look at my age

I feel good I had a lot hit me in the past few weeks but my stress is no worse than anyone elses ..it is just mine ..thanks so much for being so sweet you guys

I do appreciate you very much OOOXXX

              Re: funk vs depression

              Hi,

I know this is an old post, but I'm not sure if I'm at a funk or a depression. Everything goes at a racing speed in my life. The highlights are I'm still 60 lbs over wieght (I'm down 50 from my highest), anyway even though I'm losing I feel like I'm not going to make it to my mini goal set for labor day. I'm bipolar 2, but not in treatment because my husband thinks drs are quacks. Thanks for letting me vent. Why is it that some people can eat anything they want and not gain weight and other look at food and put on 5 lbs? It doesn't seem fair.

I don't know, but I can tell you this: When I was 20 & 30, I was one of those "not gain weight" people .. then came 40 and 50 and the RULES CHANGED. Life has a way of getting even if you live long enough.

is this something you feel every so often? like you have a 3 good days and one lousy one? or are you always sad, find no enjoyment in anything, dissatisfied with the world ALL THE TIME? once in awhile = funk ALL THE TIME = depression. now i am no doctor but that's my honest opinion. it's what makes sense to me.

yes, some doctors are quacks but not all. if you need help, find one that isn't.

the last thing.......... cause it's just the way it is. i could try levity here and say cute attracts fat cells. that would get all of us here! seriously, it just is. i suppose there is some reason for it. what i do know, it makes us appreciate the hard work of this woe and exercise to get to where we want to be.

again, these are just mho. nothing more.

                      Thanks Jimmie,

Actually it's probually all the time family history and all that I was just feeling really good when I started Atkins again because I lost 17lbs this time so far, so when I started thinking that I was never going to get to my mini goal etc, I was bummed. Thanks for the advice.

remember charlotte, this is a journey, not an overnight weekend trip. journey means it's going to take some time to get to the destination.

i have never been diagnosed with depression. been in some bad funks, though. one thing i have found that helps when i get bummed out is to start concentrating on others. do good things for others like mow the yard for the guy next door, take a treat to the ederly lady across the way, make something that a local charity could sell at a fund raiser.

                          Re: funk vs depression

My son is in med school, and just a week or so ago sent me a link to a valid study which shows that an hour of vigorous exercise daily results on only 7% of depression cases having further problems. Taking the usual suspect anti-depression meds, 38% have further problems. Repeat: exercise does more good then meds.

                          Google for this.
