If someone has had the same experience as I have, please respond. I'm debating whether to fork out $150 a month for this wellbutrin xl per month.
WOW! I'm so glad that I checked this thread!! I'm am going through the exact same experience. I have been on Wellbutrin XL (300mg) for about 18 months. Last month, the pharmacist told me there was finally a generic for it and asked if I wanted it. I said sure, and was looking forward to the reduced price as I have a $3500 deductible and was paying the full $147.00 per month. Well, the generic was $127.00, so I only saved $20. And, ugh! I found that the generic didn't do the job at all... When I went to get my refill for the next month a couple of days ago, I told the pharmacist that I wanted to get back on the name brand and asked him if it was possible that the generic didn't work as well or was it all in my head. His response was only that he could give me whichever one I requested, as it was my money... I think he thought I was nuts and was basically telling me that I could waste my money on the name brand if I wanted to. I told him that the $20 savings per month was not worth my sanity. I'm happy to know that I am not the only one who noticed a difference. I suspected that it was the "extended-release" part of the drug that the generic screwed up.

Thank you so much for this revelation...

I think this whole thing may explain why my pharmacist (last month) asked if I wanted the generic, but then said that if I'm already taking it, I probably should just continue taking the real one (mine's like, $20 vs $30), then when I went back last night to refill the prescription, he didn't even ask if I wanted the generic one... hmm.

        Re: Flouxetine/Wellbutrin

Sometimes what a doctor or insurance company will refer to as a "generic" is misleading. A true generic is chemically the same as its brand-name counterpart.

A couple of months ago I was trying to get a prescription for Lexapro filled and learned that my new insurance company would not cover it. They recommended a "generic" for Lexapro. I responded by reminding them that there is no current generic for Lexapro. It doen't yet exist.

An insurance company may recommend a generic from the same class of SSRI antidepressants but there are many of these medications and even though they work in similar ways they are very very different from one another in terms of individual experience.

Taking a med for the first time? Might as well try a generic version of an effective medication. However, if you are taking a brand-name medication that is already working well for you, be thankful and don't risk switching to what the insurance companies term its generic.

        EDIT
