:sadblinky I have been down for a while now. It was my day off yesterday. Normally I would be excited and enjoying it to the fullest. Unfortunately, I could care less. All I wanted to do was lay in bed. What's wrong?[/quote]

This is a really bad time of year for most people; with the holidays. In fact, its been some of the hardest months for me for years.
Getting out of bed when all you want to do is stay under the covers away from the world is tough, but you can do it.
Something you might want to look at is supplimenting your diet with some herbs or seeing your doctor if it doesn't get better. I take Holy Basil, and make sure that I get enough sleep. Those two seem to help an awful lot.

I'm in the same boat at the present time. This is the first time in many years that I am struggling with Christmas. I just want it done and over with. I have hardly bought anything and I am totally discouraged. I feel like such a scrooge! I feel angry towards everyone and just down right depressed. It doesn't help that TOM is a week away. Sometimes I think I need to be back on some type of antidepressant. My mom suffered from depression and the older I get the more I notice it within myself. I agree, it is the time of year!Staci

Our wonderful pick me up brain chemical serotonin production is affected by the amount of light we get and in the winter and on rainy days we get less. they even have a name for it SAD, Seasonal Effective Disorder. You can get cured by getting more bright light, 10,000 lums is the triggering amount for just 30 min. the light has to get to your eyes and you don't need the UV rays as they first thought either.
many blame it on the myth of Christmas Blues which has become like an urban legand as it gets passed on and on, but medical statistics show there isn't any increse in depression amoung those with clinical depression at this time of yr and in the southern hemishere it doesn't exist because Christmas is a summer holiday for them.
Some medical conditions can cause you to think you have depression when really you need more iron or thyroid hormone just to mention a few.
Talk to your doctor about it and see if you have depression, a medical condition (like anemia or low thyroid), or SAD. the treatments are very different.by the book atkinseer

I just can't get excited about the holidays this year. An uncle died last month, a grandma is comatose in a hospital and my nephew heads to Iraq next month and I hate my job. The holidays have always been my favorite time of year but I just can't work up the energy to care this year. I need to get back to Induction. I noticed that my mood greatly improved because my hormones stabilized on this diet. I was able to deal with my problems alot better then I do when I fall off the diet.32yr old Female

You're having a tough time of it, but you're not alone. Try to look only a few minutes ahead, don't worry about all the holiday stuff, no one says you have to do that. Try being kind to yourself, stealing a few minutes to just "be" try a hot bubble bath, or some lavendar oil to rub on your hands.
Eating right does a world of good for how you feel, but I know it can be an effort, but you're worth it.

i was spending a different kind of Christmas for me last yr with a childless house and still griving the loss of a child when a friend in a grif support program sent me this poem and it helped me realize she wasn't missing
I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below.
With tiny lights, like Heaven's stars, reflecting on the snow.
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away that tear;
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear.
But the sounds of music can't compare with the Christmas choir up here.
I have no words to tell you the joy their voices bring.
For it is beyond description to hear the angels sing.
I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart.
But I am not so far away, we really aren't apart.
I cannot tell you of the splendor or the peace inside this place
Can you imagine Christmas with our Savior, face to face?
I will ask him to light your spirit as I tell him of your love.
So then pray for one another as you lift your eyes above.
So be happy for me, dear ones, you know I hold you dear.
And be glad I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I sent you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above.
I sent you each a memory of my undying love.
After all, love is a gift more precious than pure gold.
It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.
Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do.
For I can't count the blessing or love he has for each of you.
So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear.
Remember, I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.by the book atkinseer

use it as you need to. It was given to me and the author was anonymous. there are many grief support sites you can find an illistrated copy of it on I think you may need to fix the spelling a bit though in my copy.
By the way 12/12 at sunset is the world wide candilight vigil for all those who have lost a child if anybody wants to or needs to partakeby the book atkinseer
