  • Lexapro 10mg a day

Just wanted to post that I am on Lexapro 10mg a day. I am posting that because I did a web search on Lexapro and was very scared about the side effect of weight gain. If you are looking for info on Lexapro, I hope you read this post.

My OB prescribed it for me for postpartum depression (I lost a baby six weeks ago). I REALLY didn't want to go on it, but I am very much in the blues and figured that if it helped me to cope with the hormone swings of postpartum and the grief shock of losing a baby, I might as well go on it. The only real side effect I have had in the past six weeks has been insomnia, so I am taking an over the counter sleeping aid so I can get the needed sleep.

I have been on induction for one week and have lost eight pounds. So I guess I am not having a problem with the dreaded weight gain. I also find that the pills make me "snacky", so I have surrounded myself with high protein snacks so that I stick with my low carb eating goals.

I'm so, so, so very sorry for your loss.
Obviously if you lost 8 pounds, then Lexapro is not going to affect your weight. It happens to have very few, if any, side affects. I know of 3 people off the top of my head, that are very sensitive to medicines and are doing wonderfully on this. Of course everyone is different.
Are you seeking counseling or are you going it alone? If not, I hope that you have lots of support in your life.
I wish you peace and much success with Atkin's way of life.

Thank you so much for your kind post! I wanted to assure you that I have plenty of support (can one have too much support....) and feel very blessed as I face these difficult days. There is a lot of conflicting and negative info on the internet and I wanted to document for others that this drug is not effecting the weight loss I am focused on.

I'm relieved that you have a lot of people in your life helping you. No one should go it alone.
About the Lexapro. I'm sure the Dr. told you that effects don't kick in before a good 3 weeks. It's not an overnight cure. It takes time so be patient.

Just an update: I finished Induction with a total loss of 15 pounds...WOW! So, Lexapro doesn't appear to be affecting me at all weight wise.

Thanks, Trying2...I have been taking it for six weeks now and it really is helping. I am going to wean myself off in mid-March, as my crazed hormones should be levelling off then.

            Hi there,

glad things are going well for you. I started taking Lexapro 10mg a day also just a little over a week ago. I noticed some mild side effects so far but nothing major...

I havn't started feeling any happier yet but they said it takes at least two weeks....have you noticed any difference since you have been taking them...

            Thanks,
            Jay

              Lexapro

Hi, I just wanted to post my 2 cents. My husband and I have both been on Lexapro for 2 years. It has been great, as for making you feel "happier" I don't know about that, but it does even us out. Instead of being totally happy, and then totally devastated about something it just kind of evens out, and clears your head. I started taking it for depression after I had my baby, and my husband's doctor recommened it to him for his ADD. When he forgets to take it for a day he can't concentrate on anything.

As far as side effects that we noticed, it always made us ragingly hungry. I increased my dosage to 20 mg a day, and I was always hungry! So for my weight's sake, I cut it back. It also made us hot, to the point of sweating when everyone around us are freezing.

I hope that helps, and to OP I'm sorry you lost your baby :sadblinky

                Thank you for your sentiments.

Just wanted to agree with you about being hungry: I find I am very 'snacky' ... so I just have to keep good options around. I broke down yesterday and made two batches of cookies (low carb, of course): peanut butter and coconut macaroons. Now I have homemade snacks around!

I also agree that it just evens me out. I am under a lot of pressure/stress right now and am thankful that at least I am chemically evened out!!!

Jay, I hope it helps you out. If you find yourself 'snacky', just keep great options around!
