  • No more meds

I've been stalled since Oct. At the end of Sept. I started Wellbutrin. It worked for a week. It was upped, but nothing since. I'm wondering if it's stalling me so I've stopped taking it starting this morning.

I also think it might be an emotion block-I won't let myself lose weight because of a big family issue I dealt with in November that still seems to be haunting me.

Anyone here ever had depression, self-esteem, or anything stop them from losing weight? If so, what did you do?

They put me on paxil because I was gaining weight, crying, mood swings.
      etc.

You know what it did, it made me so sleepy I couldn't keep my eyes open. I felt more drained then I did before. I talked to my doctor. Got rid of the pills. I started Atkins. I feel better just by exercising. Now, I can tell you I hate to exercise, but my sis makes me. After I do, I feel better. I believe the food is better for me to.

Anyway, just wanted to give you big hug. :hug

I just held on and worked to stick with it for one more hour. I convinced myself that I could do it that much longer.

Stopping your meds without talking to your doctor can be dangerous. Please be careful with yourself.

I was on Paxil for many years, for depression and I think because the serontonin is supposed to help with the pain of fibromyalgia. I hated how I felt taking it... and the side effects, especially the feeling like being zombie, having no great happiness, but no depression really either.

When I lost my job and health insurance (laid off), I couldn't afford to buy it and slowly weaned myself off Paxil. NASTY withdrawal. Very nasty... insomnia, headaches, etc., even while taking 4 plus weeks of stepping down the dose. I know, shouldn't have gone off it without a doctor's advice, but I couldn't afford to see the doctor. And the withdrawal and side effects were enough motivation for me to try and see if I could do with out it.

Well, I did just fine without it, probably a bit more pain from fibro. But I also started taking a B-Complex vitamin and that seemed to help just as much, if not more than the fibro, both with pain and mood. So I really wonder if I was really depressed to begin with.

Yes, I still have down days, when you have a chronic illness like fibro, that's bound to happen, but I have learned to deal with it. If I had known better, I would have worked with my doctor to deal with the situation.

I think being on the Paxil may have prevented me from really doing something serious about losing weight. I didn't really care either way, as I was neither really unhappy or happy, nor seemed to have enough motivation to do more about my weight. But I also felt let down by all the diets I had tried over the years and nothing worked. I wish I had known about Atkins sooner!
