  • LEXAPRO and WEIGHT GAIN!!!!

Help! Has anyone doing Atkins taken Lexapro for depression and anxiety and experienced weight gain? I've been on Lexapro for two months and have gained 12 pounds! I have no appetite, but crave carbs like a mofo.

If anyone has taken or is taking Lexapro and has any advice for me, please let me know!

    Thanks ever so much!

I gained weight while doing atkins and taking lexapro, but according to the maufacturer, lexapro does not cause weight gain. I know people who say they have lost on lexapro and I know others who have gained. I gained 63 lbs in three years. One of those years I was on atkins. I am just starting on atkins again after being off it for two years.......Dawn

I have been taking Lexapro for 2 years now and in my experience, you do not gain weight because of it. I was already overweight before starting on it and basically maintained myself at my overweight weight. I haven't gained anymore at all. As a matter of fact, I just started Induction and lost 10 1/2 Lbs. in just 6 days! So please don't despair. Lexapro is OK.

            Re: LEXAPRO and WEIGHT GAIN!!!!

I was on Lexapro from Aug of last year until Feb of this year. I ate soooo much while on the medication I don't know if it was the medication but I had absolutely no willpower and would eat anything. Donuts, cookies, croissants, lol.

So here I am 20-30 lbs heavier and I've decided that I do not want to be on any medication. I am trying the natural route. You never know even your birth control method can be helping weight gain. I've felt good not being on medication for the past 6 months.

So I'm back on Atkins now been for 2 weeks and I feel the depression coming back. I think it's because I am no longer using food for comfort.....I am hoping it will get better once I lose weight and can go shopping for smaller clothes.

So don't do like me take your doctors recommendation, if you think it is causing weight gain ask him/her if there is something else he/she can give you without that side effect. I know on the instructions it says "may cause change in appetitte". It can be less or more....

            Re-started Atkins after 3 yrs on 8/5/08
            Currently on Induction Phase

              Re: LEXAPRO and WEIGHT GAIN!!!!

I took lexapro for about a year and gained about 20pds. It either made me so happy I did not care what i ate..or my belief is also it made me crave carbs! I could not ever get enough carbs....ended up getting off and switching to pristiq for anxiety.
