Hi Everyone! I made my official introduction on the Spotlights board, but I wanted to pop in here as well.
Hi - I'm 25 years old from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, diagnosed with glucose intolerance approximately 4 years ago. At diagnosis, the doctor told me that if I didn't "clean up my act," I'd be a diabetic in 5 years. Which began my yo-yo rollercoaster journey with Weight Watchers, calorie counting, [low] fat gram counting, South Beach Diet, and so on, and so forth. All of which got me absolutely no where, and continued to send my health plummeting.
I'm 25 years old, with glucose intolerance, high cholesterol, and osteoarthritis in both my knees. A recipe for disaster.
I started Atkins almost a month ago, and I can't begin to explain how it has already changed my life. My blood sugar is incredibly stable - I no longer experience the alarming shakes/jitters (or passing out!), or the terrible headaches that used to occur when my blood sugar plummeted barely an hour or so after a carb laden meal. It sounds silly, but I really do feel like I'm riding on incredibly smooth waters these days - no more jitters, no more heart-racing + tiredness after meals, no more of the never ending terrible cycle.
And most importantly, no more diabetic future, because this WOL is definitely for me. My level of commitment and faith in this surprises even me.
Hopefully the weight loss will also reduce the stress on my knees, and ease up the pain of the osteoarthritis. And who knows, maybe I won't need knee replacements by age 50, as my doctor predicted.
As for the cholesterol, we shall see what the doctor says at my next physical!
Nice to meet you all. I look forward to participating!
