This is the first time I've been to this board. I started this WOE 29 June 2005. I was diagnosed diabetic when I went to see a medical professional for what turned out to be an infection under the skin on my shin. I thought that was odd ... go in for a leg ailment and sddenly I'm stickin' myself and eatin' pills and the Dr's are callin' me bad names like "diabetic" and stuff ... I followed their advise for almost two months and even went to their series of classes to learn about my "disease". I felt miserable and my legs began to sweel so badly that I had to elevate them every night just to get them to stop hurting. I only got a reading below 140 one time in the whole two months and I was being a good boy and following their advise.

Now all of this didn't sit well with me because I am a Full Gospel preacher and I am about to start a tent revival that is just going to go on until Jesus tells me to stop and I'm gonna be preaching healing and miracle messages and praying for the sick. It hardly seemed right to be poppin' pills and tellin' others to have faith ! ! !

On June 29th I ran out of metformin and it was the weekend and my pharmacy is closed on the weekend so I just decided to forget the whole medication thing and the 45 grams of carbohydrates per meal and get on the "Atkins". I knew about it and had no quams about trying it so I went for it !

I have not had a reading ABOVE 140 since ! ! ! I even had 5 strawberries and way too muct cantelope one night and my reading was 111 after 2 hours.

Here is my problem ... my Dr asked me to be on the advisory board of South West Outreach for Diabetics (SWORD), a consortium of diabetes educators, because I am a notable personality in the community and they want that kind of influence on their board. The next board meeting, my first, will be the 8th of September and I will have been off meds for over two months by then ... I will have been on a WOE that they expressly denounce for the whole time ... I will have a log that shows my Blood Glucose within normal range for two months and one that shows NEVER being within normal range for the previous two months while following their advice ... I will have felt MUCH better for two months by then AND I will have lost 30 or more pounds ! ! ! I'm just not sure how they are going to take all of that ... I suppose I could just acknowledge that God has healed me in the tent meeting and dodge the whole issue - that would be alot of fun ! ! ! And it is true ... I have been healed ... by systems are designed by God and I believe that this WOE is closer to what He would have me do ... so in essence I was healed by God and it was a miracle ! ! !

Does anyone here disagree that the result you are seeing are anything short of a miracle ?

Re: Coming out of the closet

My miracle is that I survived a doctor that prescribed medication for diabetes and didn't know a thing about diet and exercise. My BG 30 day average is 89. I can see, I can walk. I have been off medication since Summer of 2003. My highest high was 107, after a meal, this year.

low carb is the newest way to eat as a diabeic. they just recoomend more carbohydrates then the average diabetic can handle without meds.

First of all, to give your post more exposure, I made it into a new thread.

Congratulations on your success with Atkins. As 2Big stated, people are finally beginning to realize that low carb is the way to go for diabetics.

When you go to the Board Meeting, you will be be proof positive that this Way of Eating (WOE)/Way of Life (WOL) is terrific!!

I call it my 90 day wonder ..... from diagnosis to 3 month blood test.

          Total Cholesteral - 218 to 170
          Triglicerides 635 to 126
          A1C after 90 days - 6.2

Hey - plus some weight loss - now at 17lbs

Tell them that Type II Diabetics have two options - get it under control the low carb way or start having pieces carved off of them. The decisions isn't to tough then.
