  • Gurmar.. have you heard of it??

Has anyone heard of this stuff or in fact used it. An Aunt of mine died this last weekend due to the complications of Type II Diabetes...

She died in 4 days after contracting a cold... this is such a bas*ard of a disease.. How can it be right.

I found an artical about this herb (Gurmar) used in India to help with the assimilation of carbs... kinda like all the others that we have discussed in here at some stage. This herb has been reported to reverse the diabetics responces to the glucose...thus lowering a need for insulin in type I diabetics....and therefore the tradgic effects that this introduced chemical can have on the body.

Sounds interesting but I was hoping to hear from someone that may have stumbled onto it and used it..is it all gumpen?? Or is there actuall fact to it's hype...

    Hi Tish,

First of all, I would like to offer my condolences on the loss of your Aunt.

As far as Gurmar goes, unfortunately I really don't anything about it. I did, however find the following in Dr. Atkins' Diabetes Revolution Book, page 259 of the hardcover edition:

A number of herbs have been recommended for helping control blood sugar (including gymnema sylvestre (the Latin name for Glumar). Dr. Atkins did not recommend using herbs as your primary for diabetes, however, they can be useful to enhance the effect of other blood-sugar-supporting and are often included in blood-sugar-regulating supplement formulations.
I'm sure that someone else will reply about it who has a better knowledge regarding herbs, etc.

Thankyou so much for your condolances Coop....

I guess when anything like this happens you panic...thinking I don't want that to happen to me. Luckily I have the answer in this healthier way of life... If I stick to it and tame my addictions I can beat the grim reaper out of another customer.

Death comes to all of us..but it should come in it's own time and not hastened by ignorance and ill informed information given to us by those who are educated enough to lead us.

When I read the article on Gurmar my initial reaction was that more is good.... that this herb could help accelerate the process of healing.... silly I spose... because I am already doing that...day by day eating foods that my body needs not wants.

*sigh* funny how desperate we can get.

I, too, have seen the dire consequences of Diabetes. My maternal grandfather lost both legs before he passed away. Although I, too, have diabetes, thankfully I found this WOE/WOL as well as this fantastic board!
