  • Dr. B's Diabetes Solution

I'm going to buy this book, and I see that there's a revised and updated version (2003). Does anybody know what's been revised and updated? Is it worth buying the hardback when the paperback 1997 version is so much cheaper?

    Hi AJ,

Although, I don't have the 1997 version, the new version has more up-to-date information on products, medications, supplements, recipes, etc.

It would be worth it, in the long run, to get the newer version, IMHO.

I agree with Linda. I purchased this book about 3 weeks ago and feel as if I have received a miracle! My sugars were typically in the high 100's and in the AM 250 or so regularly, even on induction. I followed his plan with supplements (ALA and evening primrose oil), without consulting my MD (bad RN, doing it on her own, but planning to "prove" it to my MD tomorrow) and dropped my sugars on the supplements to normal- 85-120, and stopped my glucotrol. Don't try this at home since the supplements can interfere with your DM meds. I still take Lantus insulin in the PM, as Dr. B is ok with insulin, but does not use these type drugs because they can exhaust the remaining pancreas function. The greatest proof to me was after I forgot my supplements last night- my am sugar was 165 and after breakfast and supplements, down to 110. Amazing!!! YMMV.

This book is all and more than anyone says it can be. Buy it. It is updated with information on the latest meds, plans of care and is worth it to get the most updated information.

Norweaver, do you visit Dr. Berstein's website? The recipe forum is great, with hundreds of recipes. The people there are very nice and helpful.

You must have ESP! I was just joining and reading recipes as you posted this. I think this guy and maybe Dr. Atkins, deserve a Nobel prize!

Advice on this website is given based on the 2002 release of the book; hard or soft cover they should be the same.
