      Re: New to this forum

ok, the class was FANTASTIC! I was ssooo pleased to see so much emphasis but on the carbs!! Each day was a focus on something different and Wednesday was the nutritionist. Cliff was the "oddball" as most people there were in need of weight loss. So, she took time with him after to answer our questions and focus on his need to gain weight. 2big...... you could have TAUGHT the class!!! We have upped his carbs in the manner she suggested (and I pretty much knew).......I think we refer to it as the RUNGS!! lol lol. He already feels much better, and looks better already. It has had no effect on his readings.

The entire education was a real eye opener. I am so happy we attended. Cliff has started doing his own testing etc etc. He is now taking charge of his diabetes. A big relief to me.

EXERCISE is a huge key for him and the stress test proved that. He finally saw the light. He was up on the grains a bit the day he had his stress test and it never showed in his reading due to the fact he had a real workout on the treadmill.

They were unable to get a complete stress test as he is on beta blockers, so his heart rate never reached where she said the needed it. I asked them about that when I made the appointment as I knew his meds would interfer. The woman said it had no bearing.........welp, I was not going ot argue with her. So, when the nurse is prepping him for the test she got all po'd about the beta blockers. I told her exactly what the woman on the phone had told me. So, I guess this means we will have to redo the test. But, she is sending what she has to his doctor and let him decide.

I believe the lazer surgeries will start week after next. We go in on the 5th to see where the pressures are in his eyes.

        Good for Cliff.

Bren they have a scan with a drug stess test that is really cool for folk who can't do the treadmill test. He takes the meds there and they scan his heart, you can even sit in the room while he is scanned if you want. it gives much better results then the stress test does too cause they can measure flow and fractions something stress testing can't. It is sort of an echo and a stress in one.

                      Re: New to this forum

Blood sugars are doing quite well and we are seeing a definite pattern in things. Exercise REALLY brings him down. Which in his case is down to the 90-110.

Had to visit the Doctor last week as he was having upset stomach and vomiting. So, guess what? Yep, yet another script. His stomach was inflamed due to all the meds. Also, the constant stomach problem was raising his sugars. Now we see that.

I can see a definite improvement in Mr. B though. Color is better and he is now eating and does not appear to be losing anymore. BP is back to normal etc.

Next Friday we hopefully start the lazer surgery in his eyes. Will be good to get one of those under our belts so we know what to expect.

Thanks for asking 2big! I have learned a heck of alot the past few months! Things I never thought I would have to learn.

glad he is doing better and you guys can once again concentrate on getting healthy and growing old together.

now you are an diabetic knowledge Atkineer too so you can help answer some of the questions in here too

when blood sugar is high it can cause blurred vision too just from the sugar reaction swelling. they even got a fancy name for it and it is temp so his eyes may improve from that getting better too. Seems our bodies are like that poem about the butterfly flapping his wings in the forest leading to storms elsewhere. too much sugar in the mouth and.... problems in other body parts

so HOW DID THE EYE PROCEEDURES GO? Is he doing much better?

Did the eye doc explain that just having high blood sugar can cause blurred vision as the sugar causes swelling so any time he allows his blood sugar to get out of control he can become near sighted in adition to the retinal damage it does?

Thanks for thinking of us 2big!!!

So far he has had two of the lazer surgeries. The next four are the ones to hopefully stop the damage. The first two, plus the steroid injections were to reduce the swelling so he can proceed with the next four.
His vision will not improve, this is a damage is done thing. But, he is hoping he can stop anymore vision loss.

We have not had a sugar "up" in several weeks! I am so proud of him. He is 100% with his diet and exercise.

thanks fopr the updates. Sorry his vision loss isn't correctable just stoppable.

of course he will be on track with his blood sugars from now on as he wants to be around to grow old with his hot little wife!
