Have a look at this advice to the bewly diagnosed. http://www.diabetic-talk.org/jennifer.htm

Here is an extract, and I know what diet it sounds like to me!

It is from the section on testing your blood sugar.
"Then for the next few days, try to curb your carbs. Eliminate breads, cereals, rices, beans, any wheat products, potato, corn, fruit... get all your carbs from veggies. Test at the same schedule above.

If you try this for a few days, you may find some pretty good readings. It's worth a few days to discover. Eventually you can slowly add back carbs until you see them affecting your meter. The thing about this disease... though we share much in common and we need to follow certain guidelines... in the end, each of our bodies dictate our treatment and our success. "

My question is, if those are good readings, WHY do you need to add back carbs at all? When you're on a good thing, stick to it!

    Re: Diabetes Advice echos Atkins

My mom went to the doctor and was diagnosed with diabetes II and they basically swayed her to Atkins. Thy kept trying to sell it as "eating more protein and few carbs" and when my mom asked if he was talking about Atkins he said that Atkins works to. I guess they can't look like they are "selling" Atkins. Unfortunately she is not following the doctor's advice. But, I am working on her.

Great site Odille. I am one of the ones that suffers with Dawn Phenomenon, and I found it very informative.
