I am new and have not started the diet yet. I have been a diabetic for a little over 3 years. Does this diet work. How exactly do you get started? I am a little nervous and scared cause i have been on a lot of diets before and have always gained it back and then some. I really could use some support and i hope and pray i can find some in here!

    Hi Jennifer and welcome to

You've come to the right place for support.

First of all, do you have the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 Version)? I would strongly recommend getting it.

Secondly, there are 2 excellent books on diabetes that I would recommend.

    1. Dr. Atkins Diabetes Revolution.

    2. Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. There is a sticky, above, that will link you to his web site. ( http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ad.php?t=15047 )

Thirdly, please look through all the stickies above and also the other threads in this forum.

Fourthly, are you a Type I or Type II Diabetic?

Also, do you monitor your blood glucose levels on a daily basis? How are your readings?

The main thing is to remember, we can and will give you all the support you need. The main thing that we can't do, is to give you medical advise (only a medical professional can do that).

          Re: New and Scared

welcome to ADBB and tio Atkins.

you will need to be in close contact with your treatment team as you do any low carb plan if you are on meds because your dose will need adjustiing.

On of our retired mods Canuck is actually in the Dr Atkins diabetic book as a success story. you cn find her postings in the stickies about it.

Stay way from any foods labeled net effective carbs too as many diabetics register blood sugar increases eatting them. no bars or shakes just the great foods in chapter 11 3 cups of veggies too.

what you planning to do as your mandatory exercise part of your Atkins? walking is a very good to start with exercise.

          Happy low carbing
