  • Not diabetic but heading there

I'm just returning to Atkins after an 18 month hiatus (restarting induction in the next day or so). I've had over the course of the last 2 years 2 fasting glucose tests that while still in the range considered normal, they are very close to the end of the line for normal. In addition I've lately had some events that seem to be related to erratic blood sugar levels, I thought it was anxiety, but my doc thinks it's just as likely blood sugar fluctuations. I'm hoping if you don't mind I can hang out here and learn from all of you so that I may avoid being labled diabetic in the future. I already have hypertension, and was just started on Lipitor for high cholesterol, I see the writing on the wall that I need to work on the whole package at one time. I'm having my glucose tested again in 12 weeks and hoping for a significant improvement. My current fasting numbers are :

    Glucose, Serum 97
    A1c 5.6

Any advice or support you can offer on helping me to bring these numbers down in the next 12 weeks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Not diabetic but heading there

    Welcome, Lynsey!!

Yes, your A1C, although is considered normal, is on the up side. (According to the labs that I have had, 5.7 and below is normal).

I take it that you have a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) (Version 2002)? If not, please get it.

Also, check out these two other books:

    1. Dr. Atkins Diabetic Revolution.
    2. Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution.

There is a link to Dr. B's book in the following thread:

While you're at it, if you haven't already, please read the stickies at the top of the forum as well as any of the other threads in the Diabetic Forum. There is a wealth of information here.

And, of course, we're all here to support each other. So, ask away!!
