One thing you need to remember is when you ask questions on the rest of the board you will be getting info from people with normal insulin and normal blood sugar health issues. Because of that you might want to ask in the diabetic forum even if it is an OWL or induction issue.

      Tish & others

Large portions of Dr Bernstein's book are online here:

Trust me when I say he knows more about diabetes & low carb than anybody alive.

The new Atkins Diabetes Revolution book is pretty good & full of a lot of info especially if you are just learning how to handle your diabetes, but it is very generalized. I think if he had been alive to finish the book himself it may have ended up more detailed, but unfortunately he died while he was writing it so others had to finish it up. But what we ended up with I think is very generalized 'dumbed down' book for mass consumption

Bernsteins book handles every nuance of the disease of Type 1's & Type 2's. Yes it is highly technical in places but you can skip over that & use those areas as a reference area when needed.

To really get motivated read the preface to Dr Bernsteins Diabetes Solution, which is the story of Bernstein's life. It is one of the most inspirational stories I've ever read. He was diagnosed as a Type I diabetic at 8 years old (he is now in his late 70's) & that was literally the dark ages of diabetes. Every other diabetic he knew at that age has been dead for a long time. The chronicle of his struggle to stay alive & his discovery of the relationship between carbs & blood glucose readings is incredible. He was almost laughed out of the conference hall when as a an engineer more than 30 years ag he presented a paper to the AMA documenting the correlation between carbs & elevated blood glucose readings & shared with them his low carb diet which he found kept his diabetes in check. He then went to med school at the age of 46 , became a doctor & eventually became one of the world's foremost authorities on diabetes. The rest as we shall say is history
I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once

thanks Shawnee.... I will go there straight after this post is written.

In fact I will be in Canada in 4weeks time and shortly following a two week period there we will travel to the States. I am hoping to pick up a copy while over there...in the mean time I will devour the link you have so kindly posted.

So far between the DANDR and the lovely people in this forum I have not been disappointed and I have become well...something I thought previously would never happen for me.

2Big... heheee I don't ask questions in the other part of the forum any more.. I PM you or Canuck... I have found that the most sensible thing if I want to do it right... though it must be annoying for you ..

I merely reply to posts out there now...but only if I am dead sure of my responce.. I have seen some very left of centre replys to others posts before and would not take the risk with my health in following any advice that may or may not follow if I asked.

I have to say, that I did boot camp and I found the daily posts from people like Shawnee, PapaJack... and the beautiful Canuck to be very inspirational... if I could learn what they have learned by reading the diabetic revolution... then the experience will be priceless.
