  • elevated blood sugar

I am completing 1 week induction. My food has been 20 gram carbs only and very clean. I take my blood sugar every day and have found it elevated ! I do work out 2-3 times a week cardio & weights. Anybody else have experienced this situation. I am sure that they will go down;still it is leaving me at a loss why.
    Thanks

    Phil

    Welcome

Post your food and your numbers so we can help you look at it.Must be two hs after eating, not sooner not later.
Sometimes excercsie can elevate your bg temp and then they drop, how long aftere eating are you testing.
Oh and welcome, hope we can offer you alot of support and info, might want to read some old posts.
    Are you on meds???

      Welcome Phil, :wave

In addition to the suggestions that canuck made, also remember that if you test upon rising from bed, make sure that it's the first thing that you do.

Today is one week; I will weigh tomorrow at work ( in the gym, forgot today). I take 2 glucovance 500mg once a day. I check myself around 5pm when I get home from work. I usually work out 3/4 times a week. My food has been excellent and the cravings have disappeared,as I am certain the extra stored energy ( aka fat) will. Today my reading was 155
yesterday it was 199-like I said it hasn't been that high all year! Could it of been a moniter glitch?
Anyway, thanks so much for caring. I feel like I have a new family!

I had an episode where my sugar was up in the high 20's... I thought I was gonna die... and couldn't understand it ...I dropped my carbs to near 2% and every time I tested the bleeding thing ...it was still up.

In sheer frustration I changed the blood testing strips in the maching...bingo 4.6..normal..

It had been the gluco strips .. I don't know if the rainy weather had effected them or it was just one of those things...

You should know in yourself how you feel.. your energy level..your eyesight the general well being. (testing once a day in the evening really isn't enough to judge on)

If your feeling brilliant... then check your machine... change the batteries and reboot the thing...

If however that does not help and you are feeling like shite... then perhaps it needs investigation..

As Canuck said... post your menus as well as step up your testing times... you should be testing about 3 times aday...especially first thing in the morning before your feet hit the ground.

Phil if testing 5 pm, does that mean 2 hr after eating or does that mean never ate since lunch, went to gym after work, used glucovance, dropped in Bg and had rebound,we need more info and times of food and times of testing and what food…….. Lots of protein turns into glycogen in body so even if low carb it can raise BG. You say a yr but only doing Atkins a week, it does take time for body to use up stores of glycogen so maybe it may take a week or two for you to notice it, most are not that long.

What is fasting bg, 2 hr after a meal and before bed, I would start testing regular and keep a journal so you can see a pattern.

If strips are in bathroom and get humid they can be off as well if out dated, is code on machine matching code on strip bottle. Do you have a controls trip to do a test and make sure it is working all right?

Lots of things can be going on, good advice above, hang in and give us more info and we'll help you break it down and figure it out.

How long glucovance as it takes a month to kick in.
I think it’s the long acting one???

Anything over 140 is causing damage so let’s get on it. Have you read Dr Bernstein’s Diabetic Sol’n or new Atkins Diabetic revolution??

              I agree with Canuck's posting.

Please get both books, "Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution" and "Atkins Diabetes Revolution". In the meantime, below is a link to Dr. B's book which has selected chapters in it.

And please be more specific about what you are eating and when, i.e., do you spread out allowable carbs, proteings through out the day, etc.

Today I took my blood test and it was 123,more like it!!! I still believe it is/was a cortisol thing. I have read schwartzbein book talking about elevated glucose in regards to glucose/insulin balance. Too low carbs can raise blood glucose in some people! Anyway, one day at a time and this program and all of you are God- sends.

pgreen... diabetes is a managable condition if you don't take any shite from it!!... treat it like a child... don't let it go unsupervised, expect the unexpected and keep it with in very firm boundries and rules ... everything will be working like clockwork if you do.

It takes a little while to whip an unruley blood systme into a disciplined way of reacting.... at the moment your systme is raw and out of control... it wont take long for you to kick it's butt though and you will feel so much better than you could ever have imagined.

These gals above us here know ..and I mean really know what they are talking about..please take their advice...it will be the most important thing you will do for the rest of your valuable life!

Type II's can have a rebound effect, if taking meds, go too low, liver freaks and spews out some glycogen for you to survive and no thermostat to know how much as our organs don’t work efficiently thus get too much and then have high rebound bg.
I wouldn’t mix all these programs though, do one or the other or you will get mixed up. Can only support you with Atkins as know it well, Bernstein’s is excellent but way more stringent and I have not done it but have read the book. The other one you talk about Phil I don’t really know.
