I got a card in the mail from the clinic on base about attending a diabetes education class. I almost didn't go because the last one I went to was all about making sure you ate the right number of carbs, according to them I should eat about 250 carbs a day and cake was just fine as long as you counted it!
Well today I got there and almost left when the instructor pulled out the fruit juice and sugar free cookies for refreshments! Then she said The sugarfree cookies were ok because the one kind contained splenda, Then she looked at the other box and said "these have sucralose and that's a sugar, but its only a small amont so they are OK too! She didn't know that sucralose IS splenda not a sugar!!!
The morning wasn't a total waste, there were other people that came in to talk. A fitness instructor emphasizing the importance of exercise and he had a lot of good information. The diet tech didn't get to do her full spiel but brought in a guest speaker that was really into the glycemic index and NOT eating all those carbs and showed food labels and examples of low carb. That was quite a shock to hear there! They also had a psychologist there and she talked about setting goals. She was pretty good too.
So overall, not too bad.
