  • JUST HAD TO LAUGH!!!!!

Well, I shared with a fairly new diagnosed diabetic friend from work yesterday about how great my labs were and that my endocrinologist was tickled pink with my results after 3 mos and she shared with me today that after she left work yesterday, she went to her last diabetic education class and had to listen to them for 2 hrs bashing Atkins and South Beach diets for diabetics. She proceeded to inform them that I had just gotten back great labs results and applauded by the Dr for beginning this WOL and that I had tried "their" diet for 8 yrs and never had good lab results and that the Dr who is a diabetic specialist had even told me 3 mos ago that I needed more calories and carbs according to my diet diary to comply with their 1800 cal ADA diet. They told her that I would be "sorry" in the long run and that I was "damaging" myself and my kidneys and pancreas would be first to go. She said she was very astounded by how opposed they were. I just laughed and said yeah, they aren't making any $$ if they push Atkins instead of their ADA diet! and let it go at that, but almost had to cry as she opened up a brownie (approx 3x3x1) and said they told her it was ok to have brownies, etc. as long as she accounted for them in her diet. Anyway, just wanted to share that the dieticians are even spending a 2 hr class banning Atkins/SB for diabetics nowadays!

Good for you. Don't you love when they start talking about how Atkins is bad for you and don't have any studies to back them up. Make you wonder what other diet info they made up too.

pffft... it makes me sick that these baskets get away with this crappola!

I was on the recommended Diabetic 'disasociation' diet and my kidneys were shocking... I switch to this way of life and I am powering with health.

When will the idiots get it that the high carb rot does not work... hey maybe it is a way of culling out this over populated society!! Kinda like a warped 'solvent green' except they don't eat us afterwards.

Well my attitude is to smile sweetly..nod when they talk and count the bricks on the wall behind them... I only take enough notice of what they say in case there is a pop quiz afterwards... a kind of gentle and invisible giving the finger so to speak.

As I lose the weight effortlessly and they commend me enthusiastically... I think very evil and "nawdy" thoughts in their direction.... and just know that what goes around comes back again like an industrial strength elastic band twanging on their ***!

Oh by the way... for the record.. not eating bread this week accorded me a loss of 4 pounds in the one week.... but then ... I am sure I will be sorry for this one day and know that I should have included brownies, bread and potatoes in my daily gutzing regeme....NOT!

The only really 'good news' in that front is that former president of the 'American Diabetic Association' & current Director of the ,Division of Diabetes the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention & Health Promotion, wrote a great forward in Dr Bernsteins 'Diabetes Solution' calling him about the most knowledgable person about Diabetes on the planet

He's come a long way since the AMA laughed him out of the conference hall for promoting the same ideas while presenting a paper over 30 years ago

Slowly they are 'getting it'. I converted my doctor 100%, he sends new diabetics to talk to me via e-mail.

Dont get me started, it's slow murder what they recommend for Diabetics
How many millions have died needlessly

One diabetic at a time folks, just spread the word

excuse me for butting in on a forum I rarely go to...but, I just couldn't hold my tongue

what?? do you mean to tell me that there are actual doctors out there telling diabetics that it is ok to eat brownies?? real brownies with pure sugar and flour??

I am shocked! I mean, geez here I am a non diabetic with virtually no knowledge of diabetes beyond what the average person knows and it sounds stupid to me!...do they listen what is actually coming out of their mouths?? :raving

I was thinking the same thing Pammie, That poor women, they talk about our kidneys but how many diabetics who have been faithful to the ADA diet have scars down their chests from needing open heart surgery, have to have first their toes and then their feet and finally below the knee amputations... I don't have diabetes, but 3 years ago I lost a good friend to it. She was faithful to that diet, and the doctors just told her she was cheating and sneaking sweets and she was always depressed. She had it all, open heart surgery, amputations and at 61 she died.
I just ordered a book from Amazon which for the life of me I can't remember its name, but its by a cardiologist, AI Sears who states 1) Its not the fat in our diet causing heart attacks - its the starch and that high cholesterol is not the cause of heart attacks. I'll report as soon as I read it. But we may just find out that low carb helps more than just diabetes

I meant to post an article by the Singapore Straits Times weekly medical columnist Dr Andy Ho before it 'expired' & went to 'members only archives' but I never got around to it.

I have been readings Dr Ho's weekly column ever since I took control of my own health after reading Atkins & Carb Addicts (then later I found the diabetic guru, Dr Bernstein).

Last week he explained the Singapore's governments stance on NOT recommending statins for high cholesterol. He pointed out something that is never mentioned back in the USA; That of the 11 major studies used to support/justify the the use of Statins to 'treat' elevated Cholesterol levels 10 were funded by statin producing drug companies & thus the Singapore health authorities felt the researchers were not 'objective'

So even though statins are like in the top 5 with a bullet in terms of drug sales in the USA, even the extremely conservative Singapore govt/health agencies will not buy into the bullshit

He went on to cite other studies that show statins often actually increase the risk of heart attack for many patients

Folks you cannot trust the US Medical/Pharmecuetical/Agri Cartel. These guys own the media & the govt agencies too. Look at at what they are still saying about low carb to see what I mean

In terms of diabtes they are flat out killing people w/slow painful expensive ugly deathes like Lynne described above.

Ya Lynne I just read an article by Dr Sears and must order his book. Will post an article about him later.

I even see on TV on the statin ads a disclaimer on the bottom that says
'statins do not lessen the risk of heart attacks or heart disease'...well then bloody ****, why use them if lower ldl and only 50% of heart attacks patients have hi ldl, duh......

My metabolic center (for ten yrs) forced on me 300 to 400 gr of carbs a day and for over a yr they wrote, emailed me to warn me of Atkins and tell me how I am killing my kidneys etc. well now I use none of their insulin, drugs, have feeling back in my feet, weight 65 lbs less which only gained weight on their program and feel 500% better.
It right pisses me off, sorry but need to say it how it is!!!

Now I am in Atkins book they have stopped mailing me and stopped emailing me warning articles.hehe.they probably want my bloody autograph…NOT…just being a brat!!!
I think I might buy the unit a copy of Atkins Diabetic book for Christmas and circle the pages I am on......

Drug companies front the diabetic assoc.around the world. Dr Banting when he invented insulin almost 90 yr ago said no profit from insulin was to be made and it was to go back into research. He also lived on a low carb diet and promoted it and was boo’d by the medical community.

In 16 months, I have not spent the normal $11,200 I would have on diabetic drugs so they must hate it when one person like me gets better.

Shawnee, the Royal bank of Canada has a good ad, it says "one person at a time" and I think that is an excellent approach.

Look at how many diabetics have come here since we have been here and have found this WOL and feel so much better.
I wish we had a running list of all those who "got it".

We should be really proud of how we have engaged members and enabled them to get rid of that ugly disease and have it under control as here we are...volunteers, laypeople....who know more than most docs, endos, and diabetic programs.....we have nothing to lose if no one listens to us....they lose millions.I wonder how many diabetics we have helped here. This is the reason I stay here!!!

Last night at dinner my neighbor who is a professor at UofA says to me when we are talking about memory loss....her friend a doc says I am damaging myself on Atkins).ya rite...well as we converse about memory loss as we age she says "don’t you think it has to do with your diet, eating no carbs damages the brain".....I have told her numerous times I eat carbs just from veg, protein, low Gi fruits, as they all eat a big plate of sweet cakes chocolates and I eat a howl of cantalopue. She too has memory loss issues, I should have said something back but don’t.(PSST” its hormones that do it!!!)

I was the healthiest eater at the table, I feel the best, I think I even look the best, have nice rosy cheeks, bright eyed and busy tailed too....LOL... yet every time we get together they grill me......ey maybe I would be great on the Barbie........enough rant for a Monday morning.

Oh and yes pammie they do tell you that you can have a brownie, just work it into your daily snacks, they don't say no sugar anymore, they say here to follow the Canadian food guide which is 7 to 12 servings of grains a day, protein the size of a deck of cards, about 3 0z a day and 5 to 7 fruits and veg a day. I was told to have a banana and an orange daily for potassium and needed to inject 28 units of fast acting insulin to have half a banana on my shredded wheat with skim milk, all hi in carbs and would be starved two hs later and weak. No bloody wonder, they told me my protein was in the skim milk. Now I was dumb enough to go with them, as they were the experts. I spent one week every two ys at the metabolic center getting indoctrinated into this way of thinking for ten yrs….so it took me 8 months on Atkins before I felt ok about what I ate even thought I saw immediate results.

They say I am off insulin due to weight loss. I was off insulin in 32 hrs from starting Atkins, how much did I lose in 32 hours…oh man I gotta get off this topic as my blood pressure is now going up…….
                    :hug

I'm glad to see that others feel the way I do! and yes Pammie, they say you can have brownies, cookies, etc. It's sad, that they are doing more harm to diabetics than they are good, and degrading the Atkins WOE when it's so much healthier for us!

Yes, it is definitely true that "they" suggest that diabetics could eat brownies, cookies etc... as part of a total plan where you keep track of total carbohydrates.

I went to Joslin Diabetes Center for a while in Boston, who are world renown for their diabetes treatment and research. Part of their introductory education was showing how you could eat a real ice cream bar rather than a "low sugar" version with the same number of carbs. What they are failing to tell us is that by limiting carbs the Atkins way, you are even better off. I ate like a diabetic and ballooned up to 310 pounds. I also was on Glucophage, then Lantus and Actos plus Monopril, etc...

After almost two years of Atkins (with a few "rough spots" along the way), I am now taking 0 meds for diabetes, and have excellent blood sugar control with A1Cs of 5.9, normal for a non-diabetic. I have also dropped 40 pounds, and am currently back on track and losing again.

Let them keep their brownies. My endocrinologist loves the results, and seeing the numbers every visit is great. I'm sold on this WOE.

With the closed minded medical professionals and their staffs who dispense advise with no research, updated education or basis in fact ... is it a wonder that childhood obesity and obesity in adults is the number one disease in the U.S.. I'm sure I'm not unlike some of you, but I have been dieting much of my teen and adult life. I've spent thousands of dollars over the years and have done nearly ever program with minor successes along the way, but I ultimately failed. I was frightened to pieces when I was deemed to be "diabetic". And I followed the ADA program, religiously for a year and dropped 20 pounds and added insulin to my oral regime. All I know is that I started Atkins, reduced my HmgA1c dramatically, dropped weight, reduced oral meds and insulin.

My doctor discovered a "teachable moment" when he met me. We are working together nicely to deal with my diabetes.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.
