So does mine- they still don't get it! She thinks I am doing a version of South Beach and Atkins combined- what she doesn't know doesn't hurt her! As long as my stats stay the way they are - I will stay with Atkins!!Donna

I understand your feelings about the ADA & AMA. When I told my dr she said it was fine to do Atkins since I have been having success, but that its not an "approved" program that she can tell patients about. I told her it should be as she has seen my struggles over the last 8 yrs, knows that I have followed the ADA diet to a "T" or actually consumed less than they reccommended and still continued to need more insulin, gain more weight and put myself at a higher risk for diabetic complications. The only advise I can give you is to do what I'm going to do after falling off the wagon with the holidays and my moms death....GET BACK ON PROGRAM! Stick to it, drink your water and exercise!! You didn't mention if you have exercised, but if not, and I'm assuming since you're not working the funds are low, but try a local library/used book store to see if they have any of the Walk Away the Pounds tapes/dvd's by Leslie Sansone. She has some that are 1 mile that you could start out with and do as much as you can to build yourself up, and I believe I saw that she had one for Older Adults and/or beginners that you could try. Any exercise you can do is better than none and the more you do, the more you build up your strength. Since it's winter time its not the ideal time to work out in the fresh air, so maybe these exercises will help to build you up for some nice spring time walks in a couple of months! Good luck!
