  • Diabetes and Owl

Hi, I have been on induction now for two months and only lost 8 pounds.People have suggested i go on OWL to hopefully jumpstart me into more weight loss. I have some concerns.
I was told before christmas that i needed to go on insulin urgently. I wanted to try atkins first as i have before and my sugar levels dropped beautifully. Once again within a few weeks i am off medication and my sugar levels are healthy again...YES!!!!
I am concerned that if i go on OWL without losing a substancial ammount of weight, that the sugar levels will go up with the extra serves of vegetables etc. Once i have lost a good ammount of weight then it shouldnt be a problem, i hope but to have only lost 8 pounds has not helped my diabetes and i know its the lack of carbs that have my levels down.
Does anyone know the solution.Should i stay on induction longer or give OWL a try.

    thanks

    Re: Diabetes and Owl

First off .........CONGRATULATIONS on that 8 pounds! That is wonderful.

IMHO......as I am not a doctor. Are you pre-diabetic? Are you testing? If you are testing then you have the tool to tell you how OWL is going to effect you. Adding more vegies and testing is how you are going to know.
Also, are you exercising? That is always a great way to keep your readings low.

      Re: Diabetes and Owl

I HAD diabetes when i started this WOE and am now on rung 3 getting ready to go to rung 4 and My diabetes is gone! adding the extra veggies and nuts and dairy has not caused my sugars to go up. I am also not a doctor, just talking from experience.

        Re: Diabetes and Owl

I am diabetic, I started this WOE Jan 9th, and I have stabolized my sugars and they have actually gotten better since starting OWL. I was taking 5 shots of insulin a day and now I am doing none. Testings have been a steady 130-140 for the past week.
Check with your doctor and let them see that your levels are dropping.
Sometimes I think the Dr's push that insulin because they get kick backs from the drug companies, so they prefer to see you fail..lol
Maybe I shouldnt have said that...lol
        Good luck!!
