This first week of completing induction has been bittersweet. The positive results so far are beyond my expectations. The bitter part.... I'm sad that I have struggled with my weight and blood sugar for so many years, after following both commercial and medical diet plans. I'm really sad for the lost time, and for what I've put my body through. Just the fact that it has only taken one week to stabilize my blood sugars on Atkins is nothing short of amazing.
As of my official weigh-in today, I am down 14 lbs after this first week. That is just a side benefit. My real motivation is getting control of my metabolic syndrome. I want to get off the blood pressure meds. I shudder to think of what I have put my vessels through these past 15 years, between the blood sugar and blood pressure. I ignored it and didn't want to face it. At the time, I felt that my youth would carry me through, but I know that was just ridiculous denial.
My blood sugars prior to induction were fasting over 140, and between 160 and 225 post meal. This is eating a high carb, high fast food diet with only soda as a daily beverage. After only 5 days, my blood sugars came down to normal. Yesterday, fasting was 107, post meal #1 was 106, post meal#2 was 93. This morning my fasting bg was 100.
I have gone from 252 lbs to 238 lbs. My breathing is better, and I am not having the horrible anxiety and mood swings I was having before. I am amazed at how many things in our body that sugar effects. I'm 37 and will be 38 next month. This is going to be an adventure in turning my health around. BTW, FitDay is amazing!
