I had done Induction level for 2 months before my A1C blood draw at the end of February. My blood sugars are great! My fasting # was 89! A1C is 5.2 (down from 5.5) so I'm of course thrilled with that progress. But, my IR is still so high my Endo wants me to up my Metformin ER from 500 a day to 1000. And he said if they aren't better after a few months we'll add yet another medication to the mix. I'd like to avoid that if possible.
These are the results he sent me:
"Islet Cell Dysfunction Test Group I"
Proinsulin, plasma - 24 (ref. range 1.7-12)
insulin, serum - 7.8 (0-17)
Proinsulin as percent - 46% (3.4-21)
So - it looks like he's right to up my dosage of metformin. Could someone tell me more specifically what these results indicate? Are we talking % of beta cell burnout?
Will my insulin #'s improve soon? Over time?
