Chris~ Do you have the book? It explains it really well there. You don't have to use them, but if you're someone who might be tempted to throw in the towel if you don't see inches or pounds leaving ALL the time--these help to tell you that you're on the right track and to be patient. THAT's what I use them for.

          Re: Is it REALLY Ketosis??

I wanted to respond to this thread because I may have something significant to offer here. Before I started atkins, I was diagnosed with diabetes and my sugar was always high! after a meal it would be near 300 all the time and around 220 between meals most of time!! My doctor wanted to give me stuff to clean out my kidneys, but it would cause me to gain more weight! I declined! I decided to make a personnal decision to try atkins before considering other avenues. I started in january. Now it did take me a good 3 weeks for my sugar to completely normalize. But it did eventually straighten itself out. And I couldn't hardly lose much until it had str8tened out. And i just got over 1 stall that turned out to be yeast overgrowth. So, if you r feeling a little bloated or anything, I'd try the spit test just to be sure you don't need to deal with a yeast problem and get that out of the way.

But yeah, be patient and if you hit a stall, just read the forums and deal with it, start dropping all the extras and begin adding a little at a time once u start losing again until u see whats hurting you. it does take some tinkering for sure. But I can attest that it does work wonders for Diabetes.

I even got off the diet while on vacation and ate all kinds of junk and my sugar never went crazy. it responded normal through out. i even ate a whole dozen of crispy creams throughout that week and still, my sugar did well. Granted I gained 4 pounds but ive since been on the diet again and relost that. Anyway, be patient with the diet, it works wonders.

            Hi warbishop,

Let me start off by saying that I'm glad to hear that you're having wonderful results with Atkins.

            Now a couple of things.

In your first paragraph, you mentioned that your doctor wanted to give you something to flush your kidneys out. Do you have Kidney Disease? If you do and your creatine level is over 2.4 (you can check with your doctor), per Dr. Atkins book, you shouldn't be doing Atkins (See page 93).

The second thing is that although I know you were on vacation, you were Very fortunate that your sugar levels didn't go crazy. (I'm sure you're well aware of that ). And, I would imagine, that there are members who may see this and think that they would be able to do the same, but in doing so may not have the same results as you did.

I don't mean to come down on you so hard, but I'm just looking out for your welfare and the welfare of the board.
