  • Induction safe for raising low blood sugar?

What is a good item to use when you have a low blood sugar episode? In the past, whenever my blood sugar drops low, I tend to over eat the wrong things when my blood sugar is low. This of course sends the blood sugars spiking very high.

As you know, when your blood sugar has dropped down under 80, you need to get something in you that will raise it quickly to stop the symptoms from low blood sugar. Will things like pepperoni or cheese work for these episodes or will these things take to long to raise the blood sugar.

I know that I can try these the next time I have a low blood sugar episode, but during the heat of that kind of moment, I want to be prepared and not try something that will take to long to get sugars back up.

    Thanks!

What meds are you on? While on Glucovance I had many really low readings- then switched to Glucophage XR and never had another problem. It is the glyburide in some of the meds taht causes that. Depending on how low you are going- but if it is really low you will need something with more carbs than cheese or pepperoni to bring you back up. I would talk to your Dr about it. Maybe you are ready to cut back on your dosage?

I am on insulin (Apedra) before every meal and Lantus at night. I also take Glucophage twice a day. I am really planning ahead, but I have already had one low blood sugar episode since I have restarted induction last week. I ended up having to use some orange juice.

I just wanted to get some other opinions.

        Thanks.

Your insulin must be reduced as you go along for sure, did you read about dangers of lantus above, it has a long tail and can cause lows.....I would ask doc how many units per carbs ratio you should use and if on all those meds then you are hi risk so is better to be preventive. It can hit ya hard.
So if you are testing prior to each meal, know how many units per carbs, know carbs of foods you are about to ingest, test two hours later, you should be able to stay on top of it, journal and chart it all so if have a low you can pinpoint what happened. Always have snack before bed, you know the drill rightDon’t monkey with it as you are on a ton of drugs that can make risks higher.
I didnt recall you were on that much, you may need OJ at times.2 big what do you think??
