  • New to this Forum

I'm new to this Forum of the ADBB. I was just diagnosed with Diabetes last week.

I am so confused, as to how somebody (me ) could eat lowcarb for many years, but still become a Diabetic.

Back in 2003, before I started Atkins, I was prediabetic. For many years, Atkins had kept my bg levels at a normal level. I don't know what happened to make it suddenly go whacky.

There are a lot of people in my life who care about me, and I've been getting so much advise and recommendations. Actually conflicting advise, my head is spinning.

I have a Doctor's appointment tomorrow night, and I am actually looking forward to going and getting answers. Quite frankly, I have felt like crap lately, and I look forward to feeling like myself again.

It is nice to meet you! You will come to realize that everybody has advise for you, but the best thing for you is to do what you feel is right, and of course you can take advise from the Doctors. I know that Atkins is great for type 2s so hopefully your doctor will agree and you will be back on track!! Oh, and congrats for sticking to this WOL!!

I hope you get the answers you're seeking and that your BG get within normal!

There IS a lot of conflicting information out there, even within the medical community. Diabetes is one of those conditions that is broad in symptoms and how it affects individuals. Not everyone will have the same symptoms nor will a response to medication or food be the same. It can make for some frustrating times!

You're in my thoughts, FG! Hang in there!!! *HUGS*

Now you've got me scared. I've thought that Atkins is what saved me from the curse that is diabetes that has hounded my mother's side of the family for generations. Makes me think that there are other factors other than diet that I haven't considered.

I'd like to know too. At first I thought that you're like my mom. Unlike most people, some types of meat make her BG shoot up. You might want to test which low-carb foods do that to you. Different foods affect different diabetics in different ways, which is why the much vaunted glycemic index is useless for diabetics.

Floydgirl I hope you get some answers from your doctor. I would also request from the doctor a referal to an Endocrinologist. Good luck!
