  • Newby - First Week

I lost 5 pounds my first week. That is great and my cravings for sweets has greatly diminished. I am having a flare-up with my Lupus and wanted to know if there is any corralation of the starting of the diet or just coincidence? I'm not going to take my prednisone this time because of the side effects but does anyone have Lupus on the diet. I started because I needed to get my sugars under control and that is going great.

    Hi there

Are you Type 1 or 2? I'm type 1 and have just started Atkins. I am also hoping to lower my sugar levels and reduce the the amount of injections , fingers crossed!

I'm Type 2 -- Sorry for the delay I was on vacation and couldn't really follow the diet because we went out of the country. So starting on Induction again today. How are you doing?

How's everyone's sugar doing? I restarted on 1-10-08 and finally noticed a drastic improvement last weekend. I guess it takes a little time, but keep it up and things will fall into place! Oh, one more thing-I had a major Diet Mt Dew addiction and once I eliminated that all together is when I noticed the biggest improvement beginning. I've been water like crazy now and its so much more refreshing to me!

I have lupus too. Its a nasty disease but I will not let it define me! Welcome to the boards. You will find this community a great support network!! Regardiing the flares, I have not found too many causes for them, besides being overly tired. They tend to come and go at their whim. The one thing I have noticed is the amount of energy that comes with this way of eating. AMAZING. When I do have flares, I make taking care of me a priority. Stay connected to your specialist. He/She will want to know about changes in your condition.

Thanks for the input. I am now feeling less tired. I still work and have a managerial position and we are implementing a new phone system, electronic medical records and have some other family medical issues also going on. I have been told by the time I could receive disability, I would qualify for Retirement Social Security so I keep working. I am glad to hear that you are doing well because Going Low Carb is the only way I can take off weight and have lower blood sugars. Thanks for the support.
