  • Insulin resistant diagnosis... help!

    Hi everyone,

I'm new. I just recently got the news from my DR that I'm insulin resistant and from what I understand that's "pre-diabetic."

I was wondering if any of you who currently have diabetes were first told you were insulin resistant and if so, how long did it take before it had progressed into diabetes?

I'm trying so hard right now to figure out how to eat to keep it from being full-blown diabetes. It's a struggle because this is such a new concept for me! I'm a carb and sugar addict and I just don't know what to eat anymore!

Thanks for any help you can give me!

    Donna

Hi Donna and welcome to and the Diabetic Forum.

According to Dr. Atkins' Atkins Diabetes Revolution (Page 54), a prediabetic may develop Type II Diabetes within 10 years, if precautions are not taken.

Everyone is different. As we state time and time again here, we are NOT medical professionalists. However, by doing the Atkins WOE, you are on a great road. Also, please keep in touch with your Doctor to check your numbers.

    Please keep us updated.
