  • Could Amaryl Be The Bad Guy?

I'm about to give up, y'all. I've been following the induction "to a t", but a week ago my weight loss came to a screeching halt. So after 2 weeks, I've lost 5 pounds. Make that 4...I GAINED a pound back. Could it be my diabetes medication? I'm going to the Dr this afternoon...maybe he can help, but I seriously doubt it.

I WILL say that my blood glucose level is nearly normal now since being on Atkins...that's a major improvement.

Has anyone else had the same experience?

I have had several stalls - but it doesn't phase me. Just keep plugging along. The fact that your glucose readings are down are tremendous! In fact, that is my number one reason for doing Atkins! So as long as my blood glucose is within normal range, I'm happy. The weight loss, when it comes, is gravy.. albeit, lo-carb gravy, but gravy none the less!

      Hang in there!

        Hello April,
Oh dear, by all means, don't give up. You've only begun such a wonderful journey. There's so much positive waiting for you just around the corner. Let me explain.
I was a Type-2 Diabetic just over four years ago when I too began Atkins. I read the DANDR 2002 and found a wonderful way to help stablize my blood glucose and accelerate my weightloss. It's called the Glycemic Index (GI) Dr. Atkins describes it as " A beautiful tool".Page 78-84, 92 DANDR. Boy was he right. I followed Atkins to a T as you are. Though I used the GI too, to choose foods lowest on the GI and GL (glycemic load). In 48 days into Extended Induction my Diabetes disappeared never to return to this day. In fact I just returned from my doctors this month and he reafirmed that I am no longer at risk for Diabetes. I healed myself with Atkins and the GI.
Good health begins internally. Not only did Atkins reverse my diabetes. It stablized my blood pressure, and brought all my blood chemistry to healthy levels, cholesterol ratio, ldl, hdl, A1c, all at healthy levels.
Remeber, this isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle. We are much healthier for making the lifestyle changes that we do with Atkins.
Since we are doing this for life, what is the rush? You have just begun an amazing journey that holds so many wonderful healthy changes in you that will help you live longer, feel better and make you the healthiest internally than you ever have been in your life!
Weightloss is only one of the wonderful benifits to being in the Atkins lifestyle.
Here's a link to help you understand the GI and GL so you to can choose your foods lower on these wonderful tools. www.glycemicindex.com Also here is something that you can use to help choose foods lower on the GI and GL that Jimmie Jo gave me. It's a great site aswell.
Table 1. Glycemic Load Values For All Food Types
Glycemic Load of Carb Foods - GI in Food Serving
I didn't eat fruit for a year. I pretty much stayed around Rung 3 for 6 months. I lost 100 pounds in ten months using this "beautiful tool".
Give it a try, only thing you have to lose are the pounds gone forever.
Remember, this isn't a race, it's a lifestyle. It's all about the journey and all the things along the way that we learn about ourselves that works for us. We are all very unique when it comes to weightloss. We have our own weightloss rythm. It's not uncommon to lose, then gain a couple pounds then lose again. It's all perfectly normal. It's OUR weightloss RYTHM!
Also these are supplements that I took in the beginning of Atkins to help stablize my glucose levels-
        Chromium Pic
        Alpha-Lopic Acid
        Pro-Biotics (for yeast problems)
Cimmamon 500 mg (lowers glucose levels by 40 points
        Noni Juice (normalizes glucose levels)
You can purchase all of these at your Natural health Pharmacies.
As long as you keep your glucose levels at a steady level without any spikes or drops, you will lose weight. I believe that's where the GI and GL came in handy for me aswell.
Wishing you the best of health and lite.
        Sincerely, Sherri
